"I know what Margot Robbie did with Barbie": Margot Robbie's Fans Shrugs Off Concerns Around The Sims Live Action After Barbie's $1.4 Billion Success at Box Office

The long-running simulation series The Sims is currently making headlines for getting a feature film adaptation. Initially reported by Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider newsletter, the details surrounding the live-action were later corroborated by THR. With the video game franchise getting reimagined, Margot Robbie is said to be helming the production of the film.

Notably, there have been multiple attempts to get a Sims film produced in the past. But unfortunately, it never succeeded. However, with recent reports surrounding The Sims adaptation, it seems there’s still more life left in the tank. Therefore, set to be directed by Loki helmer Kate Herron, the movie is expected to be a grand success considering Margot Robbie’s attempts at Barbie.

The Sims is Getting Reimagined as a Live-Action Adaptation

The video game franchise that initially began its life as SimCity before evolving and offering fans with a much more popular spinoff, The Sims, is now getting a live-action adaptation of its show. The spin-off, which was first released in 2000, portraying the daily lives of the fictional SimCity’s residents, is now set to get a feature film.

Previously, the video game franchise sold millions of copies of the show and turned into one of the most lucrative video game properties ever made. Now, after multiple sequels, spinoffs, and expansion packs, The Sims is set to be reimagined as a feature film. However, according to IGN, this isn’t the first time the video game franchise is being reimagined.

Back in 2007, Sims almost had a live-action adaptation after the rights were first purchased by 20th Century Fox. Unfortunately, it floundered in development limbo for over a decade and eventually got canceled in 2019. Thus came the recent report of The Sims live-action, as Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider newsletter first reported that news.

Margot Robbie Partners with Kate Herron for The Sims Live-Action

Following the news of a new Sims adaptation from Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider, reliable Hollywood-focussed news outlet THR verified the legitimacy of the report. While Sneider’s newsletter consisted of scant details, the media outlet offered proper reports and even revealed the partnership of the project.

According to THRThe Sims movie will be directed by Kate Herron, who previously helmed the first season of Loki. Further, Margot Robbie’s production company, LuckyChap, is said to have teamed up with Herron to produce the film adaptation. Roy Lee and Miri Yoon of Vertigo Entertainment, alongside The Sims publisher Electronic Arts, will also be involved in production.

The upcoming adaptation is being described as a hot package, with multiple studios and streamers, waiting to land the project. As of now, the film is in early development; cast members and plot details are thus yet to be revealed. Meanwhile, since the unorthodox approach to adapting Barbie turned out to be an excellent strategy, it is speculated that Margot Robbie might add similar magic to this movie.

Fans are Positive About The Sims’ Success After Barbie’s Achievement

Positive about the success of The Sims adaptation, considering the unprecedented box office collection of Margot Robbie‘s Barbie, fans seem to shrug off any concerns. Although after the report of Sims adaptation hit social media, a few netizens claimed that the video game franchise should be left off as a cartoon series, others offered their full support to Robbie.

Don’t think the would be a good idea. It’s better off as a cartoon. Live action always spoil the real deal

If she treats it like the Barbie movie as like, some sort of parody or critique on EA and the whole ”leave the fantasy world to become yourself” thing, I guess it could be funny.
