Fans believe Emma Stone called Jimmy Kimmel a ‘pr–k’ after ‘Poor Things’ joke at 2024 Oscars

Did Emma Stone badmouth Jimmy Kimmel at the Oscars?

Some fans believe the actress, 35, called the comedian a “pr–k” after he cracked a joke about her movie “Poor Things” during his hosting gig at the Academy Awards in Los Angeles Sunday night.

After clips from Stone’s nominated film played on the big screen, Kimmel quipped, “Those were all the parts of ‘Poor Things’ that we’re allowed to show on TV.”

The joke was in reference to the R-rated film’s many risqué scenes.

Netizens on social media attempted to read Stone’s lips from a quick cutaway clip that aired on the broadcast. Some claimed the actress said the vulgar word to her husband, Dave McCary, shortly after Kimmel made the joke on stage.

“Emma Stone says ‘He’s a prick’? 😬,” one Oscar watcher tweeted via X, while another added, “I noticed too ! She looks annoyed anyway!”

However, not everyone was so sure that’s what the “La La Land” star said.

“That’s absolutely not what [the] clip shows,” one dissenter argued. “Don’t try and lip read when you don’t even have a full clip of what she said.”

A second chimed in, writing, “Or she could be saying ‘He’s Right.’”

“People just creating their own narrative. You can’t tell for sure what she said,” noted another skeptic.

Still, many pointed out that Kimmel wasn’t wrong in his assessment of the Yorgos Lanthimos-directed film.

“I mean she was naked in about 90% of the movie, so he’s not lying,” one fan wrote, with another adding, “He is not wrong. A [NSFW] movie packed with vibrant color and elaborate costume.”

It was an eventful night for Stone, who picked up a second best actress Oscar for her role as Bella Baxter, a woman who discovers her sexuality in “Poor Things.”

Wearing a Louis Vuitton gown, she breathlessly took to the stage to accept the award with the back gaping open after the zipper broke.

Stone began her acceptance speech by turning around and showing off her dress.

“My dress is broken,” she told the audience. “I think it happened during [Ryan Gosling’s] ‘I’m Just Ken’ [performance].“

Later in the press room, “The Favourite” star explained the dress mishap, revealing her style team “sewed” her back in the dress.

“Right when I came back they sewed me back in, which was wonderful,” she shared. “I genuinely think I busted it during ‘I’m Just Ken.’ I was so amazed by Ryan and what he was doing and that number just blew my mind and I was right there and I was going for it and, you know, things happen.”
