Fallout Fans Already Have a New Vegas-based Conspiracy from Prime Video's Show

Fallout is an incredibly popular IP among gamers and has been around for over two decades. The post-apocalyptic setting of the IP, along with its attention to detail, has made it one of the most popular RPG series ever.

Following the latest trend of video games being adapted into TV Series, the Fallout web series on Prime Video has fans stoked, and enthusiastic fans are already wearing their tinfoil hats and cooking up conspiracy theories. One such theory is about a jibe taken by Bethesda, the owner of the IP, and Obsidian, the developer of New Vegas.

Fallout’s end credits have a New Vegas Easter Egg, and fans are connecting the dots

Fallout: New Vegas is considered the best game in the main series by a mile.Fallout: New Vegas is considered the best game in the main series by a mile.
The video game series that fans appreciate because it has some of the best world-building ever witnessed in the gaming industry. Various developers have developed the series’ leading titles, but Bethesda has published them since 2004.

Obsidian is one of the many developers involved in the RPG series. The studio developed Fallout: New Vegas in 2010. The studio is also known for its more recent works, such as The Outer Worlds, which have been well-received. Now, in the industry, loyal fans of the Bethesda RPG are often seen comparing the titles developed by Bethesda and Obsidian,

But the rivalry between the two studios is allegedly more profound as per some fans of the franchise who spotted the following detail in the end credits of the post-apocalyptic science fiction show:

While this was an interesting observation, the city’s destruction in the show might not imply what fans think it does. Unsurprisingly, cities in the show and the games look the way they do because of the game’s setting, and fans might pit the studios against each other without any conclusive proof.

The destruction of New Vegas might not mean what fans think it does

Most Fallout games have multiple endings. Most Fallout games have multiple endings.
The snapshot embedded in the Tweet above might imply that the city is destroyed; the reason is known only to the show’s creators and might be logical or petty, depending on the perspective. On the contrary, it might be that the city of New Vegas hasn’t been destroyed at all and is just a patch of desolate land in the show’s world.

Readers familiar with the IP’s lore will also understand that the expansions to Obsidian‘s game were also released, and plenty of discussions have been held within the game’s community over the series of events.

With the number of endings in each Fallout game, establishing continuity is as tricky as separating two layers in a strand of hair. Also, as one heads down the rabbit hole of the show’s and the game’s lore, one is bound to encounter spoilers, so readers are advised to tread carefully. Regardless, unless there is official confirmation, nothing can be said.

What do you think? If you have finished the show, do you think that Bethesda went out of its way to diminish Obsidian’s contribution to the franchise by deliberately rendering the latter’s title non-canon? We would love to know what you think in the comment section below.
