Even Oppenheimer Cast Can't Help But Freak Out Watching Ryan Gosling Perform I'm Just Ken at Oscars With Margot Robbie and Emma Stone's Cameos

After many ‘Will He Won’t He’ discussions on the internet, Ryan Gosling has finally given an electric performance of I’m Just Ken at the 96th Academy Awards. The Barbie actor performed the catchy number in the film as the song was nominated for Best Original Song. The performance also featured cameos from Margot Robbie and Emma Stone, along with other Ken actors from the movie.

Gosling’s performance at the Oscar began amidst the celebrity crowd just behind Robbie. As he slowly took it to the stage at The Dolby Theater, fans were sure that they were in for a great rendition from the actor, and he didn’t fail a bit.

Everyone at the Oscars couldn’t help but move their feet along to Ryan Gosling‘s rendition of I’m Just Ken. A few minutes earlier, Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell gave a soothing performance of another Barbie nominee in the category, What Was I Made For?. Gosling’s performance in his rhinestone-studded pink suit changed the mood of the entire room.

His performance was also accompanied by appearances from songwriter Mark Ronson, guitarist Slash from Guns ‘N Roses, and the Ken actors Simu Liu, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Ncuti Gatwa, and Scott Evans. Gosling’s performance came shortly after he lost the Best Supporting Actor award to Oppenheimer‘s Robert Downey Jr.

Towards the end of the performance, director Greta Gerwig, Margot Robbie, and team Barbie, along with Poor Things star Emma Stone, sang a few lines alongside Gosling. As he finished the song, the whole room gave a standing ovation for the actor.

The Dolby Theater also saw performances from other contenders – Jon Batiste with It Never Went Away from American Symphony, Becky G with The Fire Inside from Flamin’ Hot, and Scott George and the Osage Singers with Wahzhazhe (A Song for My People) from Killers of the Flower Moon.

Ryan Gosling Wasn’t Initially Confident About Performing The Song In Barbie

Fans would have never gotten this amazing performance at Oscars 2024 if it was not for Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, the composers, who convinced Ryan Gosling to perform it in the movie. Although Gosling was a member of the band Dead Man’s Bones, he felt that I’m Just Ken was out of his vocal range. He eventually embraced his inner Ken to perform the number, not only on camera but on a live stage in front of the whole world.

Unfortunately, I’m Just Ken lost the Best Original Score award to the other Barbie nominee, What Was I Made For? It is Eilish and O’Connell’s second Oscar after winning in 2022 for the James Bond theme No Time to Die.
