Eiza González is not only dominating Netflix’s TV trends, but she’s also quietly trending on the streamer’s movie list, thanks to a title from 2017.

Eiza Gonzalez as Darling in Baby Driver and Auggie in 3 Body Problem

Eiza González’s new show 3 Body Problem is currently Netflix’s top scripted TV title, but that’s not her only project trending on the streaming platform. The 34-year-old actress has compiled quite the filmography since making her film debut in 2014. Before that, González starred in several Mexican telenovelas and gained notoriety from Nickelodeon Latin America’s Sueña Conmigo. The same year González made her feature film debut, she starred in Robert Rodriguez’s From Dusk till Dawn: The Series, playing Santanico Pandemonium for three seasons before it was canceled.

Recently, González had a guest role in Amazon’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith, which led into her significant role in 3 Body Problem a few weeks later. The new Netflix show from Game of Thrones creators David Benioff & D. B. Weiss instantly rose to the top of the streamer’s TV trends. 3 Body Problem‘s cast is also propelling interest, particularly González’s performance as a brilliant scientist named Auggie Salazar, who is tortured by the world’s biggest mysteries on display in the show based on Liu Cixin’s novel. However, 3 Body Problem isn’t the only González title hitting big on Netflix.

Baby Driver Was Eiza González’s First Big Notable Movie Role

Whereas 3 Body Problem is currently the #2 TV show on Netflix in the US, Baby Driver is sitting at #2 on the trending movie list. Edgar Wright’s action movie from 2017 was actually González’s breakout movie role after her small cameo in 2015’s Jem and the Holograms. Within Baby Driver‘s cast, González played the role of Darling, a member of the ruthless heist crew and the wife of fellow criminal Buddy (Jon Hamm). While Darling and Buddy’s fate is predictable based on their thrill for dangerous missions, González gets in on the action without being pushed aside as the crew’s only female member.

It’s interesting to see Baby Driver trending on Netflix eight years after it initially released. That said, the movie was well-received upon release and still stands as one of Wright’s best-rated movies to date (via Rotten Tomatoes). Much of the positive reception stemmed from the fast-paced stunts and ensemble cast. Aside from González and Hamm, the movie starred Jamie Foxx, Jon Bernthal, Lily James, and a special cameo from Flea. Of course, Ansel Elgort played Baby, the titular getaway driver for the crew. After earning over $226 million at the worldwide box office (via Box Office Mojo), Baby Driver is seemingly getting a new life.

Following Baby Driver and Eiza González’s first showcase of an action-heavy movie role, it’s no surprise she became a go-to for major film franchises. Within her filmography, she acquired roles in notable action movies like Alita: Battle Angel, Hobbs & Shaw, Bloodshot, Godzilla vs. Kong, and Ambulance. Michael Bay’s 2022 movie, in particular, turned out to be a highlight despite Ambulance‘s underwhelming box office performance. Granted, the cast’s performances were a point of praise, especially González’s role as the EMT taken hostage after her ambulance was hijacked.

Bloodshot released in theaters during mass COVID-related shutdowns, which greatly affected its box office potential. Similarly, Godzilla vs. Kong was released in theaters and on HBO Max simultaneously as part of WB’s streaming deal that year.

While 3 Body Problem and Baby Driver continue to trend on Netflix, Eiza González’s 2024 will only get better once The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare releases. The upcoming Guy Ritchie spy WW2 movie features González as Marjorie Stewart, a member of a covert British organization that utilizes unorthodox practices to eliminate Nazis. Once again, González will get a chance to shine alongside another stellar ensemble cast, with The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare also starring Henry Cavill, Alan Ritchson, Henry Golding, and Cary Elwes. González will then gear up for two more Ritchie action movies in the near future.
