Dune’s Best Hero Played Horror Master’s Scariest Villain

Right now, there’s no bigger movie in the world than Dune: Part Two, the second installment in Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of the sci-fi book series first penned by Frank Herbert. With an all-star cast backing the action-filled epic, many viewers have turned their attention to other credits held by those gargantuan names at the top. While the flick may give the most screentime to Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson absolutely steals the show as Lady Jessica, and if you’re looking for another dynamic performance from the actress, search no further than her starring role in Mike Flanagan’s 2019 feature, Doctor Sleep.

Doctor Sleep

Although her character in the Dune franchise is finely teetering the line between loving mother and holy war starter, Rebecca Ferguson’s role in Doctor Sleep is completely evil. Based on the 2013 novel of the same name by Stephen King, the movie serves as a follow-up to the story of Dan Torrance, the little boy with a special gift in King’s book-turned-movie, The Shining. Now a grown man, Dan (played by Ewan McGregor) continues to struggle with his psychic abilities, coping by following in the footsteps of his father and using drinking as a crutch.

Rebecca Ferguson As Rosie

Just like audiences learned in the first film or book, Dan Torrance isn’t the only person out there with these supernatural abilities and the story digs into the people using their gift for sinister purposes. Enter Rebecca Ferguson’s Rose the Hat aka Rosie. The leader of a cult known as the True Knot, Rosie and her followers capture others with their specific set of powers and feed off their skills, essentially making the group immortal beings.

Portraying Rosie Was No Small Feat

Rebecca Ferguson puts on a dynamite performance in Doctor Sleep, as the ruthless and unwavering woman at the front of the power-hungry cult. Setting her sights on as much power as she can possibly attain, Rosie goes to despicable lengths for more doses of juice. One scene, in particular, left a scar on Ferguson and the rest of her True Knot cast mates when they preyed on Jacob Tremblay’s Bradley Trevor in what is easily the most stomach-churning moment of the film.

Dune And Doctor Sleep Perfectly Display Ferguson’s Range

Going blow to blow with Ewan McGregor’s Dan and Kyliegh Curran’s Abra, Rebecca Ferguson’s Rose the Hat is equal parts cunning and lethal, proving to be a worthy adversary for the film’s main protagonists. As anyone who’s seen Ferguson in interviews for Dune or other projects will know, the actress embodies everything opposite her Doctor Sleep character, making her appearance in villainous roles all the more entertaining.

Rebecca Ferguson Currently Stars In Silo

Beyond her delightfully diabolical roles in Dune and Doctor Sleep, Rebecca Ferguson can be seen in Apple TV+’s ongoing sci-fi series, Silo. The streamer is also the place where audiences can go to check out Doctor Sleep as it’s the only platform currently carrying the Warner Bros. feature, although we would expect it to return to Max sometime in the future.

Could there be anything better than Rebecca Ferguson, Ewan McGregor, Mike Flanagan, and Stephen King? We think not and believe that you’ll agree after you catch the actress in her most sinfully corrupt role of all time in Flanagan’s Doctor Sleep.
