5 Essential Moments from Denis Villeneuve’s Films That ‘Dune: Awakening’ Must Include, Revealed

There is epic potential to bring what movies did so well into this game.

Denis Villeneuve brought sci-fi to a whole new level in recent years with the adaptation of Dune into movies. Critics and fans praised these two movies for their incredible success at the box office.

That is why Funcom has a real possibility of incorporating some of these extraordinary moments into the game Dune: Awakening. This title will be an MMORPG that will use Unreal Engine 5. Paul Atreides will also be the protagonist, as long as he follows the Fremen and all the things that you saw in the movies. The potential is limitless.

Dune: Awakening, and the potential to deliver the same epicness as the movies

Dune: Awakening has the possibility to be one of the greatest game adaptations ever.Dune: Awakening has the possibility to be one of the greatest game adaptations ever.
Funcom has the unique opportunity to create an unbelievable game, given the popularity Dune gained from the two movie adaptations of the first book of the saga, both directed by Denis Villeneuve. This studio could really make for an amazing gaming experience. Dune: Awakening will be the name of this title, an MMORPG game that will make players feel like they are on Arrakis. Looking for the Fremen and making a change in all the galaxy as you harvest the power of the spice.

The movies masterfully develop Paul as a character and a Messiah, eliciting a deep sense of empathy from the audience for the protagonist and his journey. Funcom has the ability to incorporate all these moments into the game mechanics, allowing players to embark on their own journey to discover the power of Arrakis. The following list will have some mild spoilers for the movie; these are five moments that should be in the game.

5. The Harkonnen army attacked the Atreides army

In the first movie, Denis Villeneuve introduces all the characters to audiences: both of the more powerful houses in the galaxy, the Atreides and the Harkonnen. In the movie, you can see how the emperor makes the Harkonnen leave Arrakis and not be more in charge of the spice, then he puts the Atreides in charge of this job. This was part of a plot to wipe out the Atreides house of the galaxy, with a night attack that almost eradicates the clan.

4. Learning how to control the voice

This ancestral power is related to the Bene Gesserit, a cult that is behind the control of all the galaxy. Paul’s mother teaches him how to use this power, making him the first male to control it.

In the game, there is a whole mechanic that you can improve by leveling up; this is where the RPG aspect of the title could be important. The Voice has a critical part in the plot, with several great moments in the movie.

3. Paul Atreides, the leader of the Fremen, is identified as the Messiah in the prophecy

In the game, this can be a key feature to manage armies or squads of Fremen to attack Harkonnen bases and liberate Arrakis zones under the control of the Harkonnen. The possibilities are endless regarding how the player could manage the Fremen army and all of its power. In the game’s trailer, there are some hints that show Paul with some Fremen soldiers after he moves around Arrakis.

2. Attacks on the spice harvesting machines

In the movie, this was adapted as a very essential moment where Paul Atreides proves his worth as a warrior. This specific scene could potentially serve as a raid mode in the game, where players can collaborate to demolish the spice harvesting machine and gradually dismantle the Harkonnen army. Again, Funcom has a lot of possibilities, and the trailer has shown how this can work in the game. The title could also refer to specific mechanisms, such as stealth.

1. Riding a Sandworm or the Shai-Hulud

This is probably the most significant moment in the movie when Paul Atreides finally rides the legendary Sandworm, or as the Fremen called it, the Shai-Hulud. Denis Villeneuve really goes beyond the audience and makes one of the most epic moments in recent cinematic history. This HAS to be in the game, so the experience can be complete. The desert has been shown in the Dune: Awakening trailer, so it is only a matter of time until the Shai-Hulud appears.
