Actor Chris Evans is best known for his time as Steve Rogers / Captain America in the MCU. However, after the highs of his MCU stint, Evans has failed to replicate the strong critical and commercial success in his career. The actor stepped away from his most famous role following Avengers: Endgame, but his string of critically panned recent projects have fans concerned.

Chris Evans as Steve Rogers aka Captain America

On social media, fans of the actor discussed his post-MCU career and noted the terrible choices he has made in the recent past. With promotional material for Evans’ next outing co-starring Dwayne Johnson making rounds fans feel the actor needs to shake up the formula. Fans also compared him to the likes of Chris Pratt, who has had a decent career outside the MCU, and here is what they had to say.

Fans Discuss Chris Evans’ Awful Post-MCU Career Choices

Chris Evans debuted as Steve Rogers / Captain America in 2011 and played the role in live-action until 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. However, since he departed from the MCU, Evans has branched out into other roles but did briefly return to the superhero franchise in Deadpool & Wolverine, albeit as his Fantastic Four character.

Chris Evans will next appear in Red One

Evans will next appear in the upcoming action-adventure comedy Red One, co-starring alongside Dwayne Johnson. After a poster featuring Evans for the movie was released, fans quickly took to social media and criticized the actor’s post-MCU career choices. Here is what fans had to say about Evans’ poor track record in recent times on X.

As the tweets indicate, fans are unhappy with the choices Evans has made after leaving the MCU. Furthermore, fans also compared his career graph to the other prominent Chrises of the MCU, Chris Hemsworth and Chris Pratt.

Many fans argued that most of Evans’ recent projects are formulaic cash grabs, which do not allow him to flex his acting muscles or offer something different. Therefore, many fans admitted that Evans’ career was experiencing a decline in form.

Fans Compared Chris Evans With Chris Pratt and Chris Hemsworth

Since hanging up his shield as Captain America, Evans has featured in action-oriented films such as The Gray Man and Ghosted. However, both those movies received negative reactions from critics. Similarly, Evans’ more experimental roles like the crime-comedy Pain Hustlers and the animated Pixar film Lightyear were disappointments.

Chris Pratt as Owen Grady in Jurassic WorldChris Pratt has proven himself outside the MCU

Evans experienced some success with Knives Out but has failed to capitalize on it with interesting roles. On the other hand, Chris Pratt has tasted commercial success outside the MCU, with the Jurassic World franchise, positioning himself as an action star. Similarly, his voice acting roles in Super Mario Bros and The Lego Movie have also been successful.

On the other hand, while Chris Hemsworth has remained with the MCU, he has proven his action prowess with the Extraction franchise. At the same time, he has received critical praise for his performance in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and voiced Orion Pax in Transformers One. Therefore, it is safe to say that Evans has arguably had the worst career trajectory since 2019 and needs to choose better roles.

Red One is scheduled to be released on November 15, 2024.
