The Boys: Explaining The Seven'S Newcomers - Firecracker And Sister Sage

The Boys are back, and Vought’s premiere superhero team, The Seven, is undergoing a major shakeup in season 4. With vacancies to fill and a world on the brink, Homelander is bringing in two new Supes: Firecracker and Sister Sage.

The Seven have a revolving door when it comes to members. Whether due to internal conflict, public scandals, or worse, the team is constantly needing replacements. With Butcher’s crew scrambling after the events of season 3 and Homelander’s growing tyranny, the stakes are higher than ever. Losing Starlight and Queen Maeve left significant gaps on the roster, both in terms of female representation and raw power. Vought needs to fill those slots and maintain the illusion of a powerful superhero team.

Firecracker, played by Valorie Curry, is a new addition to The Seven. Her costume evokes American patriotism, similar to Homelander, but with a sleeker design reminiscent of Queen Maeve. The inclusion of blue camouflage and a belt buckle featuring a gun and an explosive hints at her powers.  Firecracker’s name and imagery strongly suggest abilities related to explosions, perhaps akin to Gambit from X-Men with his explosive-charged objects.

Susan Heyward portrays Sister Sage, another new member. Clad in gold hues, her costume stands out. The belt buckle with two facing “S” letters remains a mystery. In the trailer, Sister Sage offers public image advice to Homelander, suggesting a strategic or manipulative mind. Perhaps her powers lie in foresight or premonition.

Both  Firecracker and Sister Sage are entirely original creations for the show, not appearing in The Boys  comics. Their abilities and motivations remain shrouded in secrecy until the season 4 premiere in 2024. One thing is certain: The Boys will have their hands full dealing with these new Supes and whatever challenges they bring.
