If you’re anything like us you will have spent much of the weekend staying cosy inside and binging the latest series on the sofa (hot chocolate optional), which this weekend was Netflix’s new miniseries American Primeval. And now that we’ve raced through all six episodes, we’re intrigued to know, will the show be making a return for season two?

In the first season, we follow the journey of mother and son Sara and Devin, who it turns out are on the run, after Sara murdered a man. The pair are traveling through Utah in 1857, which is in the midst of numerous battles between Native Americans, Mormons, the US government, and pioneers.

As they make their way through this tense landscape they’re helped by Isaac and Two Moons, who both have their own reasons for traveling onwards. So, will we be seeing Sara and Devin return for season two? Here’s what you need to know.

Has American Primeval been renewed for season 2?

Right now there’s been no word on a second series of the show. American Primeval is listed as a “limited series” which would indicate it could only get a one season run.

However, the series director and executive producer Peter Berg has revealed he is keen for the show to return, on one condition.

“You know, after we wrapped, and I looked at all the actors — the ones that were still alive — I felt such affection for them. And I do think there are many ways that we could go. I’ve still got to thaw out from my time spent up on those mountains in the winter, but maybe if they got to lower ground, that wasn’t quite as cold, we could. We could go back. If [Indigenous Consultant] Julie [O’Keefe] will come back, I’d be up for discussing it,” he told Decider.

So would Julie come back? “As long as I don’t have to have ice cleats again, I definitely will come back,” she said.

Who could be cast in American Primeval season 2?

Well given half of the characters were killed during season one, a much smaller cast would be returning.

We could expect to potentially see Betty Giplin as Sara, Preston Mota as Devin, Shawnee Pourier as Two Moons, Kim Coates as Brigham Young, and Shea Whigham as Jim Bridger.

What would American Primeval season 2 be about?

If the series were to return, there’s a few routes the show could go down. Having miraculously survived season one, and wanting to carry on traveling to California,Sara, Devin and Two Moons are supposedly still on their way to west, which would make for a whole new (and warmer) setting.

Or the series could stay in Utah and pick up with the ongoing battles of the Mormons. Either way we’d be sat ready and waiting for more episodes
