Alan Ritchson reveals Fast & Furious 11’s biggest hurdle despite “earnestly begging”

Alan Ritchson and Dom Toretto in Fast X

Alan Ritchson reveals Fast & Furious 11‘s biggest hurdle to starting filming. The actor joined the long-running film franchise in Fast X as Aimes, the newly appointed head of Mr. Nobody’s agency who is secretly conspiring with Dante, Jason Momoa’s primary antagonist. Released in 2023, Fast X was reportedly the first part of the franchise’s two-part finale. Though, almost two years later, Fast & Furious 11 filming has yet to start, or make any official progress regarding its cast or production.

During an exclusive interview with ScreenRant for Reacher season 3, Alan Ritchson revealed the biggest hurdle to Fast & Furious 11 starting filming – getting its cast back together. The star says the franchise film is taking so long to start shooting because coordinating the busy schedules of its star-studded cast – including Dwayne Johnson, Vin Diesel, Jason Momoa, and himself – is a major challenge. Read his full comments below:

We talk about it quite often. That is one of the biggest challenges that franchise faces is that you’ve got a lot of guys like Dwayne and Vin and Momoa and myself and everybody’s super busy. So trying to get the stars to align so we can make that happen is a feat of nature. So we’ll see how it goes, but this is a passion project for Universal and it’s one that I had a blast doing, so I’d love to get in there, and I’ll bring it to life again.

Reacher season 3 begins streaming on Prime Video on February 20.

What Alan Ritchson’s Comments Mean For Fast & Furious 11 Filming

It Faces A Major Obstacle

Shortly after Fast X‘s mid-credits scene revealed the return of Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs, who becomes Dante’s next target, a standalone sequel titled Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Reyes was soon announced with The Rock and Momoa starring as the leads. However, Fast X‘s massive budget and relatively moderate box office earnings meant that any sequel would likely conclude the franchise. In turn, the spinoff has seemingly been scrapped, and Fast & Furious 11 will serve as the franchise’s final installment.

However, originally expected to be released in April 2025, Fast & Furious 11 has been postponed to an unspecified time in 2026. As Ritchson reveals, getting the cast back together is the biggest hurdle that Fast & Furious 11 faces before filming can begin. The Rock, Diesel, Momoa, and Ritchson all remain busy with an array of projects. This is not to mention the rest of the Fast & Furious cast, which includes Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Brie Larson, Jason Statham, Charlize Theron, Gal Gadot, and many more.

Our Take On Fast & Furious 11 Filming

When Will Filming Start?

As Ritchson reveals, getting the cast back together is proving to be a major hurdle for Fast & Furious 11, which could push filming back even further. With so many A-list actors juggling multiple commitments, scheduling a production of this scale is incredibly complex. Given these challenges, it’s possible that filming might not begin until late 2025 or even early 2026. If that happens, Fast & Furious 11‘s planned release in 2026 could be delayed even more, and fans may have to wait longer than expected for the franchise’s high-octane finale.
