Cardi B shared an interaction with Ice Spice on social media over shared heritage

In April 2024, Cardi B and Ice Spice shared an interaction on X (formerly Twitter) about their shared Dominican heritage. On April 4, 2024, Cardi quoted a tweet calling a user out for wrongly naming her Mexican when she was Dominican.

She mentioned Ice Spice in her post, questioning why rappers like her or Zoe Saldana do not have to face such misconceptions. She claimed that her ethnicity is misconstrued to deliberately hurt her. Cardi B wrote on X:

“Same reason why you felt comfortable calling me a Mexican when I’m Dominican and I asked you why you feel comfortable calling me a Mexican when ice and jharell Jerome Zoe Saldana are Dominicans and you don’t do that to them. You do it to me because you know that’s what people use to hurt me… same way as you use my name in that video knowing exactly what you doing”

In response, Ice Spice quoted Cardi’s post and said that she is called Dominican because one of her parents is from the ethnicity while the other is Black. Cardi quickly responded to Spice and clarified her heritage and what she meant.

Cardi B mentioned that she, too, is Dominican, as she has “no Mexican parents” and her father is Dominican. She further clarified that her mother was born of a Black woman, and she mentioned others who share similar ethnicity to prove her point.

“I have no Mexican parents. My mom is Trini.. she came out of a whole black woman. My father is Dominican…I’m Dominican just like you.” she wrote.

In the same interaction thread, Cardi B asked Ice Spice to share the photo the two rappers supposedly took together at a recent Vanity Fair party. The rapper obliged her request and shared two snaps of them together with a nod to their shared heritage.

In a March 2024 appearance on 360 with Speedy Morman, Cardi B revealed that she had recorded a remix of Ice Spice’s hit track Munch but refused to release it. The rapper revealed that she did not like her verse and felt it could ruin Spice’s song. She said:

“I did do a thing for Ice Spice, but I just did not like how it sound,” she admitted. “I love the record. I did not like how I sound. You know it being on a drill beat, it’s not as easy as it look. I just feel like, ‘Oh my God … They’re gonna drag me and they’re going to drag the song bad.’”

Morman further asked Cardi B about her collaboration with Kay Flock and Dougie B on Shake It. However, the rapper revealed that Shake It was “a little bit more her speed because it was a little bit more aggressive.”

She added that she “hated her verse” and did not want to ruin the record for Munch. Cardi B’s collaboration with Ice Spice never dropped.
