It is no secret that the angry Wolverine is the most lethal, and in Deadpool & Wolverine, Hugh Jackman’s titular character he played for nearly 24 years, mostly remained angry. It is Jackman’s prowess that the actor beautifully played the character over the years, and he has always been convincing as Wolverine.

Now, speaking with his co-star in an interview on PEOPLE ahead of the release of the movie, Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds revealed that the way Jackman came to him in a scene with Wolverine’s classic yellow suit to unleash an attack, terrified him badly.

When Hugh Jackman is coming at you at 150 Australian miles per hour, you feel like there’s no way you’re not going to be dead in four seconds. And I will never forget that. And thank God I’m in a mask, because under the mask my face is going, ‘Oh God!’

It would have been worth it to witness the expression of Reynolds, but he was inside the mask. Regardless, the incident proved that Jackman’s commitment to the role made it more convincing that even the Deadpool star was terrified of it.

Ryan Reynolds Was Impressed With Hugh Jackman’s Insane Physical Transformation

Jackman, 55, went on to rigorous training to get into shape for the highly anticipated upcoming MCU movie. Reynolds was certainly fascinated by the actor’s dedication to the role. Of course, Wolverine’s role is physically demanding, and it requires a jacked physique and Jackman has always honored that throughout his tenure as an X-Men hero. “I have some insight into you being 55 and doing Deadpool and Wolverine,” Reynolds told Jackman during his chat on PEOPLE.

Let me start then, I have, I couldn’t believe what I saw with what you did physically for this movie. Not just the aesthetic transformation that’s amazing, that’s incredible, that anyone could do that but just the sheer relentlessness that you dedicated yourself towards stunts choreography, I, it was the first time I’d ever seen how invaluable and I hope any young actors are listening to this, how invaluable a background in song and dance is when you were doing an action movie.

The actor went on to add, You hit your marks in those fight scenes with speed and confidence the likes of which I have never seen I don’t care if you were 25, 35, 45 or I could not believe what I saw.

Jackman often shared details of his training and diet to get into the shape of Wolverine, and his relentlessness and confidence marked the essence of his character embedded into his very DNA.

Deadpool & Wolverine will hit the theaters on 26 July.
