X-Men Actor Breaks Silence on Cancelled Mutant Storyline After 14 Years

One of the prominent mutants in X-Men Origins: Wolverine was supposed to have additional plans in a future Marvel sequel, reveals one of the stars.

One of the X-Men Origins: Wolverine characters was supposed to be back for one of Hugh Jackman’s later Marvel projects. The X-Men movie timeline is, by far, one of the more complicated superhero franchises in modern times. With multiple retcons and creative struggles, 20th Century Fox’s X-Men universe had several struggling attempts, including X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which was meant to serve as a new start for the studio in having more prequels based on the mutants.

In an interview with C.B, Kevin Durand, who played The Blob as part of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, opened up on how he was set to return as the Marvel mutant in The Wolverine movie. However, those plans never came to fruition, as Durand shared the following:

I really should be because I remember when we were doing the scenes in Wolverine , he just kept saying ‘You’re going to end up with your own movie,’ and he really wanted me to come back and do the next Wolverine and The Blob was going to be the sumo wrestling champion in Japan when he goes to Tokyo but it never panned out.

How The Blob Could Appear In Deadpool & Wolverine

While The Blob may not have gotten a proper chance to shine yet, Frederick Dukes could get a new opportunity this year if he were to be part of the Deadpool & Wolverine cast. With Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool threequel essentially serving as a farewell to the old X-Men movie era, someone like The Blob could show up in one of the timelines that Wade Wison will seemingly visit throughout the film. At the same time, there is the opportunity for Deadpool & Wolverine to get a bit meta with how the X-Men franchise didn’t handle The Blob in the best way.

After X-Men: Days of Future Past reset the movie timeline, initially envisioned as a soft reboot, The Blob ended up appearing a lot earlier in the continuity, as he had a cameo in X-Men: Apocalypse. However, other than being beaten by Angel, The Blob hasn’t been back on the big screen ever since then. If Deadpool & Wolverine really wanted to bring up how confusing it has been to follow the X-Men films over the decades, a scene where both versions of The Blob show up would be a fun way to address one of those circumstances.

While time will tell if The Blob has a secret cameo or not in Deadpool & Wolverine, it is likely that he will be one of the mutants to get reimagined for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As Marvel Studios is working on their X-Men reboot, there are a lot of characters they will be able to tackle, including The Blob. Hopefully, X-Men Origins: Wolverine will not be the only Marvel film to have featured the character in any significant capacity.
