As X-Men: The Animated Series is making a comeback this month with the release of the X-Men ’97 TV show, the social media reactions have arrived.

The first social media reactions are out for X-Men ’97, the new Marvel animated series. While there will be only a few Marvel movies released in 2024, Disney+ is keeping the MCU audience busy with new shows. The next series is X-Men ’97, serving as the first official production made by Marvel Studios since they got the rights back to the iconic mutants.

As X-Men ’97 is officially set to premiere on Wednesday, March 20, with the first two episodes being released on Disney+, there has been a lot of anticipation for the sequel to X-Men: The Animated Series. With only one week left to go before the X-Men ’97 series premiere, the first batch of social media reactions have arrived online, with people giving their thoughts on the show’s first installments. Check out several excerpts below:

Mama’s Geeky’s Tessa Smith shared how they were “overwhelmed” to have the show back, celebrating “so many characters & story lines done PERFECTLY!”

ComicBook.com’s Aaron Perine expressed that X-Men ’97 is “absolutely ASTOUNDING” and was floored by how “much love this show has for the entire idea of” the X-Men.

POC Culture praised X-Men ’97’s first three episodes for handling the nostalgia “perfectly,” including the use of action and powers, as well as also being “pleasantly hilarious & surprisingly sexy???”

Eric Goldman commented how X-Men ’97“takes the original series,” and “updates it with modern animation, great action sequences and an anime influence.”

The Direct’s Russ Milheim“can confidently say that fans of the original X-Men Animated Series” will be thrilled with X-Men ’97 as a sequel.

Nerd Reactor’s John Nguyen felt it was “just a blast from the past and a love letter” to X-Men: The Animated Series, and also praised the level of “emotions from laughter to excitement to sadness.”

Radio Times’ Morgan Jeffrey added that “the biggest compliment I can pay is that it feels *just* like watching”X-Men: The Animated Series, serving as a “note-perfect recreation.”

Nerdist’s Eric Diaz said that there are “lots of nods to classic Chris Claremont stories” that X-Men: The Animated Series wasn’t able to do, which X-Men ’97 is seemingly able to do now.

What The First X-Men ’97 Social Reactions Reveal About The Show

These early X-Men ’97 reactions speak to how the creative team wanted to honor The Animated Series as much as possible. Even if they aren’t calling it X-Men: The Animated Series season 6, X-Men ’97 is clearly doing solid work in being a sequel show, which isn’t always easy for a series that ended many years ago. The new X-Men ’97 creative team is clearly also passionate about The Animated Series, and want to honor it to the best of their ability.

It also speaks to how aware Marvel Studios is of the iconic status of The Animated Series, especially as X-Men in live-action have been struggling in the last decade when they were part of 20th Century Fox. If X-Men ’97 is being handled well under Marvel Studios, it could also bode well for how they will portray the mutants when they finally tackle them in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Hopefully, this will be the case for the rest of X-Men ’97 season 1 and even season 2, which has already been greenlit.

Time will tell how the rest of the world responds to X-Men ’97, especially from other longtime fans of The Animated Series. What will also be fascinating is to witness a whole new audience getting introduced to this version of the X-Men without having seen the original series. With only a week left to go, the world will soon be able to enjoy X-Men ’97 when the first two episodes arrive on Disney+, starting on March 20.
