‘X-Men ’97’ Lands Animated Program Emmy Nom For Marvel Studios; ‘Ahsoka’ Owns ‘Stars Wars’ Series Noms

Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm’s Star Wars were at a lull this year at the Primetime Emmy noms with five apiece.
While that’s up +2 from Marvel’s count of three last year with the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel, Star Wars‘ tally this year, all for Ahsoka, is off considerably from 2023’s 23 noms, which was fueled by series Andor and Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Marvel’s foray into streaming series on Disney+ rallied them to respective heights of 28 noms in 2021 spurred by WandaVision and in 2022 with 19 Emmy noms juiced by Moon Knight, Loki, What If? and Hawkeye.
This year, Marvel Studios’ most notable nom is in Animated Program for X-Men ’97, which is a revival of their classic ’90s animated series. The series follows the band of mutants who use their uncanny gifts to protect a world that hates and fears them, are challenged like never before, forced to face a dangerous and unexpected new future. The critically acclaimed series notched 4M views across the first two episodes in its first five days on Disney+ with the finale clocking 3.5M views in its first five days, becoming the OTT service’s most-viewed full-length animation series finale since Season 1 of Marvel’s What If…? X-Men ’97 is up against Disney’s Bob’s Burgers and The Simpsons, Netflix’s Blue Eye Samurai and HBO’s Scavengers Reign.
Other Marvel Studios’ noms this year include Echo and Loki season 2 in Outstanding Sci-Fi Fantasy Costumes, Loki in Sound Mixing for comedy/drama series one hour and Loki for Outstanding Special VFX in a season or movie.
Following Bob Iger’s return to Disney as CEO, and a retrenching of the prior regime’s aggressive financial bid on streaming series, Marvel Studios’ has opted to space their future Disney+ shows out going forward, while also doubling-down on feature development.
Meanwhile, Ahsoka — the live-action series take of the femme Jedi powered warrior from the Dave Filoni Star Wars animated series — landed Emmy noms in Special VFX Season/Movie, Fantasy Sci-Fi Costumes, Fantasy, Sci-Fi Hairstyling, Prosthetic Make-up and Sound Editing Drama-Comedy Series Half-Hour and Animation.
