Fans get to see Invincible Iron Man and Peter Parker from Spider-Man: The Animated Series in this final X-Men ’97 episode.
X-Men ’97 has set the bar so high for the live-action X-Men film in the MCU. The series truly satisfied Marvel fans with its jaw-dropping climax episode. The final episode, Tolerance is Extinction – Part 3, concluded a three-episode arc that began with the eighth episode. Fans were super excited to see the number of cameo appearances from different Avengers in the show, including Captain America’s second appearance.
X-Men ʼ97 final episode has numerous Avengers cameos
The show did not take the popularly predicted path of introducing the Onslaught. Showrunner Beau DeMayo had asked viewers to read the comics, Sanctuary Part 1 & 2, before watching the final episode. Here are all the Avengers cameos from the episode.
Invincible Iron Man and Captain America
Invincible Iron Man appears alongside Captain America as they encounter the attack from the Prime Sentinels. They are both at the White House with President Kelly, who is contemplating whether to use the Magneto Protocols or not. Cap later appears in a scene where he tries to dissuade the President from using the missiles against Asteroid M.
In a later scene, both Iron Man and Captain America watch helplessly as the burning Asteroid M fast approaches the Earth, only to be saved by Magneto who regains his psyche.
Daredevil
Daredevil is seen fighting crime in Hell’s Kitchen when the Prime Sentinels attack
Daredevil makes a stylish entry in X-Men ’97, stopping a bunch of looters before sensing something wrong’s happening. When the Prime Sentinels attacks him and throws him through the window of a shop, he gets help from Cloak and Dagger.
Cloak and Dagger
Cloak and Dagger appears out of nowhere to fight the Sentinels
Cloak and Dagger appear out of nowhere just when the Prime Sentinels land in Hell’s Kitchen and attack Daredevil. As the duo prepares to fight the mind-controlled slaves of Bastion, Jean Grey and the Phoenix Force’s intervention saves them a fight.
Doctor Strange
Doctor Strange in X-Men ’97
Stephen Strange has a quick blink-and-miss role in the X-Men ’97 finale. He’s seen performing a surgery in his New York Hospital. But instead of scrubs, he’s in his Doctor Strange attire and he is using magic to perform the surgery.
Black Panther
King T’Chaka appears as the Black Panther and King of Wakanda in two different scenes in the X-Men ’97 finale. He and the Dora Milaje initially assemble inside the Wakandan palace to fight the Prime Sentinel army. It is shown that the Black Panther actually begins fighting the Sentinels before Jean’s intervention.
He later appears as the King of Wakanda in front of the UN to make the case that the Magneto Protocols shouldn’t be initiated.
Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson
Peter Parker and MJ from Spider-Man: The Animated Series makes an appearance in this final episode
This is a major cameo that most people may have missed in the episode. Fans often wondered about the fate of Peter Parker and Mary Jane in the 1998 animated show, Spider-Man: The Animated Series, which ended on a cliffhanger.
At the end of the show, Peter Parker sets off to find MJ with the help of Madame Web after she is lost in another reality. X-Men ’97 showrunner Beau DeMayo has confirmed that the scene in the finale meant that Peter had found MJ. His latest tweet read:
Marvel currently has no plans to revive the Spider-Man animated show, but the success of X-Men ’97 may make them rethink their decision.
Other Cameos In The X-Men ’97 Finale
En Sabah Nur’s appearance will be crucial in the second season storyline
When the Prime Sentinels are unleashed onto the Earth, Silver Samurai is shown in a glimpse, before the scene cuts to Iron Man and Captain America. Fans also get to see the mutants like Omega Red, Crimson Dynamo, and Psylocke alongside other members of Alpha Flight. Fans even get to witness a Fantastic Four moment when Morph transforms into Mister Fantastic during the final battle.
The most significant cameo comes at the end when a group of X-Men are transported to 3000 B.C. Egypt. They encounter En Sabah Nur, the ancient mutant warrior who later becomes the Apocalypse.
All ten episodes of X-Men ’97 are now available for streaming on Disney+.
