The character has previously romanced Wolverine and Forge, but was yet to meet with her future husband in this continuity.

Xmen' 97 Storm and Black Panther

Storm has had multiple romances in X-Men: The Animated Series and X-Men ’97, in the form of her relationships with Wolverine and Forge. However, X-Men ’97 seems to have permanently shut the door on one of Storm’s most famous romances from the comics, thanks to a key easter egg that was revealed in the finale of X-Men ’97Tolerance is Extinction Part 3.

Storm in X-Men '97

Storm, while being married to Wolverine in one possible future (as depicted in X-Men: The Animated Series) has also been the Queen of Wakanda, serving as the monarch of the fictional nation with her husband, King T’Challa, the Black Panther. However, as revealed in X-Men ’97, the current monarch of Wakanda, very much in his prime, is King T’Chaka, the father of T’Challa.

Storm is usually a contemporary of King T’Challa

T'Challa, as he appears in Iron Man: Armored Adventures

In more than one continuity, Storm has found herself falling in love with T’Challa, who is usually the monarch of the Wakandans when he gets married to Storm. The duo have children in at least one continuity, with the most well-known among them being Azuri, who is a member of the Next Avengers (which consists of children of all the Avengers who stood against Ultron and perished, save The Hulk and Tony Stark).

However, in X-Men ’97, it was revealed that the Black Panther who has been shown in the series from all the way back since the original run of the show has in fact been King T’Chaka, the father of T’Challa. Given that the monarch still functions as Black Panther, it is to be assumed that his son, T’Challa, is on the younger side, making it extremely unlikely that the Storm would have a romance with the character.

The MCU might have found a way to have Storm have a romance with T’Challa, despite the character being dead

King T'Challa in Black Panther

While T’Challa might have passed away in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the film also revealed the fact that the character has a secret son with Nakia, also named T’Challa. Given that time travel is possible in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and that the heroes of the universe have a multiversal war on the horizon, it is possible that an older Prince T’Challa will make his way into the mainline MCU.

The first class of the X-Men would be the like of Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, Angel, and Iceman, with Storm joining in with the second generation of the team, which, if the studio does right, could coincide with Prince T’Challa’s tenure as Black Panther, making Storm and T’Challa into contemporaries once again. This could then aid the creators to realize the romance including these characters on the big screen.
