Virgin River Season 6, Episode 3 Review: ‘The Jury’s Out’

Virgin River Season 6 Episode 3

Virgin River Season 6, Episode 3 ‘The Jury’s Out’ puts the Preacher drama to rest very early on—which probably opens up to season to focus on other dramas, like whatever is going on between Everett and Doc, and what is coming between Brady, Brie and by extension, Lark and Mike. And that last part, we’re not really looking forward to.

The show has clearly made a choice regarding Brie, and that choice is Brady. And they’ve also clearly decided the drama that Mel got for seasons is not coming her way. Can’t say I love it, but on the other hand, at least Mel and Jack get to live without relationship drama for a bit. If we get through Season 6 without them ever reconsidering this wedding and we end with them married, then no matter what happens to the other characters, I will call this one a win. I promise.

Even if that means poor Mike is going to get hurt, and Lark is going to create a mess and Brie is going to create an even bigger mess and we’re all going to be shaking our heads at whatever happens there. This is probably where we’re heading, so hang onto your hats.

RICKY’S BACK

Virgin River Season 6, Episode 3 ‘The Jury’s Out’ brings back Ricky, and it’s both really great to see him and really hard to see him. His decision never really made sense, even within the context of a show that sometimes doesn’t even make sense. And though this is the first time in a while where we can relate to what Ricky’s feeling, it’s also the first time in a while we go through times where we really don’t like Ricky all that much.

Because look, even if you don’t agree with Lizzie’s decision to have a baby or think she’s too young or she’s rushing or whatever, that’s still her decision. And Ricky, of all people, has no right to come try to judge her, particularly when he was the one who left and stopped writing to her. He was the one who decided he wanted another life. He doesn’t get to judge her for deciding which life she wants just because it’s not the one he gets to live.

And if he’s scared, which he’s got a right to be, he doesn’t get to take that out on her, either. And sure, it’s nice when he goes to talk to Jack later. That’s probably what he needed. And the show, because of course it does, kinda ends this storyline on a good note. Ricky needed to hear from Jack and it was probably good for Jack to talk to him, to be there for him. It gave him a lot of much-needed perspective. But it still rankles that we got to see Ricky come back for what… so he could judge Lizzie and get some quality bonding time with Jack and then leave? Eh, thanks but no thanks.

PREACHER

Virgin River Preacher

The Preacher parts in Virgin River Season 6, Episode 3 ‘The Jury’s Out’ are good, and the fact that the jury doesn’t find him innocent but just cannot make a decision rings true. Brie’s maneuvering afterward also works, because it feels like Preacher didn’t ‘get away with it’ but he’s also not paying for something he didn’t do. And Paige, well she’s no longer part of this show. That storyline is over, and now Preacher can look to the future with Kaia. Now he can build. And we, in turn, can invest in this future with him.

For a lot of the time, we’ve spent with Preacher in Virgin River we’ve been waiting for the other shoe to drop. This feels like the first time we get to figure out who Preacher can be without something hanging over his shoulder. And more importantly, we get to see him and Kaia together in those circumstances. Honestly… we can’t wait.

Things I think I think:

Now Hope is worried about wedding details? Now?

LOL “the event of the year”
I mean okay it is like the Virgin River Royal Wedding. Carry on.

Multiple chocolate fountains, run Mel, run.
RICKY!
Oh, he’s being deployed so soon. That’s terrifying. I hate this storyline.
So I’m just going to be stuck with the flashbacks all season?
“We helped each other heal. Out of that came you.”
Fun justification for cheating.
ANYWAY, it’s not really hitting for me.
Plus Lark is making me angry.
And Ricky too! She really doesn’t need to justify herself to you, dude.
Even if you’re scared and going through a hard time.
I actually think Preacher testifying is the only move they had, what can I say?
Oh, Muriel, you canceled the date?
“Then we’ll beat it.” Why did I get emotional?
I mean, Charmaine does deserve sole custody there.
Denny and Doc giving me feels.
So glad someone told Brady something that made him suspect because I was about to get MAD.

I’m so over the military propaganda, though.
Ok, I like Mike and Brie but this show seems to be going for Brie and Brady and I need them to make a CHOICE.
Ok, Mike, you blew that one.
A hung jury? Did not see that coming.
Okay, Brie, you maneuvered that one like a Queen.
So Brie and Brady are the choice, right?
What did Everett DO?
Of course, this is breaking Doc’s heart, but what’s the backstory? What happened?!
Also, Mel, man… I know getting to know your father is important and all of that, but you seem to just be throwing Doc away like he means nothing without any regard for his feelings. Everett has been there for 0.2 seconds. Doc has been around for years. Just saying.
