With the Thunderbolts movie in production, Florence Pugh shows off her new Black Widow costume as Yelena Belova gets ready to return to the MCU.
Florence Pugh offers a new look at her upgraded Black Widow costume in the Marvel Cinematic Universe through a Thunderbolts set video. While there are few Marvel movies releasing in 2024, 2025 will be a different story with multiple MCU films on the way. One of them is the Thunderbolts movie, which has been pushed back in light of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes in 2023. Currently, the Jake Schreier-directed movie is scheduled to release on May 2, 2025.
Marvel Studios has shared a new behind-the-scenes video for Thunderbolts, which is currently in production. With Pugh taking center stage in the video, she gives a little sneak peek at the set, while no other Thunderbolts cast members were spotted at the time.
Something that stands out in the Thunderbolts video is her new Black Widow costume, showing that she will definitely get an upgrade for her new MCU appearance. The rest of the video gives a better look at the stages and set buildings that are being used for the movie.
How The Thunderbolts Set Video Is Teasing Yelena’s Role
Yelena Will Have A Big Part In The Movie
While not much is revealed in the Thunderbolts set video, it does imply that they are lining up Yelena to be one of the bigger players, if not the biggest one. It is unusual for Marvel Studios to have a video like this be shared where one actor, in particular, is the primary focus. The fact that Yelena is also getting a new costume lines up with past MCU projects where other big heroes have gotten their suits upgraded.
The movie may be focusing on the Thunderbolts team as a whole, but it wouldn’t be shocking if it is going to help make Yelena’s status as the new Black Widow more prominent in the MCU. As the Avengers are moving on to a new generation of heroes, including Sam Wilson serving as the new Captain America, Thunderbolts can help solidify Yelena’s new position as Black Widow, following Natasha’s death. Time will tell how crucial Thunderbolts will be for Yelena going forward, but this video alone definitely hints at bigger things to come for Black Widow.
As Thunderbolts is still early in production, it will likely be some time before the first trailer gets released. Perhaps they will have a presence at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, as they will be at least halfway through shooting. Hopefully, as Thunderbolts gets further into filming, more glimpses will be shown over the next few months.
