The canon birthdays of the MCU’s Avengers gives some insight into their zodiac signs, and allows for reflections on the characters.

While some heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe make sense with different zodiac signs based purely on their personalities, several characters’ birthdays have been established in the franchise’s canon. Interestingly, there’s a solid case to be made that many of the MCU’s Avengers make sense with their given signs. While perhaps vague in concept enough to work with anyone, it can be entertaining nonetheless to see where different characters sit.

Although not every Avenger has an official MCU birthday, some can be roughly deduced thanks to the timeline of the MCU’s movies. On the other hand, immortals like Thor are near-impossible to assign a canon date. In any case, discovering the official astrological signs of the Avengers is interesting, as it gives insight into a character, and it’s fun to see if their traits match their sign well or not.

Vision – Taurus

Early May

Vision using the Mind Stone to attack someone

Vision’s birth isn’t exactly traditional. He wasn’t born but instead made by Tony Stark and Bruce Banner in the MCU. As this occurs in Avengers: Age Of Ultron, the audience can surmise that his “birth” happens in early May 2015, making him a Taurus. Tauruses are marked by their steadfast nature. They are often thought of as stubborn, but they’re incredibly patient.

Tauruses take their time and are creatures of comfort, not enjoying when things suddenly change. Vision has a childlike innocence to him at first, but he proves himself patient and reliable in all of his interactions with the Avengers as he follows the leads of others, learns their methods, and struggles to adapt to sudden changes. Even when brought back to pseudo-life in WandaVision, Vision remains relatively calm and analytical as he takes the situation in stride.

Black Panther (T’Challa) – Taurus/Gemini Cusp

May 21

T'Challa as Black Panther smiling in Black Panther

In the MCU, T’Challa was born on May 21, 1980. This technically makes him a Gemini, but since the date is right on the cusp, it’s important to look at both Taurus and Gemini traits to see which one fits. T’Challa definitely has many Taurus traits, and this sign is known for being practical and reliable, which makes sense as T’Challa is a leader that many people rely on.

But, since Taurus is ruled by Venus, they also have a soft, romantic side to them, just like T’Challa. The Gemini in T’Challa’s sign makes him more adaptable than the typical Taurus, however, and he always seems ready for anything. Unfortunately, the passing of Chadwick Boseman means the MCU didn’t get the chance to explore T’Challa as much as it otherwise would have, but he seems to embody both potential signs well.

Iron Man – Gemini

May 29

Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark during weapons demo in Iron Man (2008)

Born on May 29, 1970 in the MCU, Tony Stark is a Gemini, which is a perfect fit. Geminis are known to be outspoken, but they are also very intellectual and relentless in their search for information. They also love to share what they know with others and are very quick-witted. Their wit is a trait they are proud of, as they are known to be the life of the party.

The Gemini sign sums up Tony’s unmistakable traits in the MCU. Geminis are somewhat mercurial and can have two sides to them, shown through Iron Man’s outward confident and witty persona, and the more internal side that is wracked with guilt and self-doubt. Both sides stayed with Tony for the duration of his MCU journey, from his introduction to his sacrificial death in Avengers: Endgame.

Captain America – Cancer

July 4

Captain America was born on July 4, 1918. While his Independence Day birthday is on the nose, Cancers are people who like to take care of others and have a strong sense of loyalty, which translates to Cap’s arc in the MCU, which started with his devotion to his country. Cancers are also known to have an introverted side, as seen in how Steve often keeps his feelings hidden away while giving off a very put-together front.

Throughout his MCU journey, Steve did grow a bit less introverted and fully embodied his leadership potential. However, he kept a personal side as he chose to keep the details of his life with Peggy to himself in Avengers: Endgame. The Star Spangled Man With A Plan embodies the person everyone should aspire to be, and his life continues to inspire others after his apparent exit from the MCU.

Nick Fury – Cancer

July 4

The man who brought the Avengers together, Nick Fury, shares Cap’s July 4 birthday, as revealed on his ID in Captain Marvel. Though the two have different approaches to helping the world, they share motivations. Fury’s introverted side is shown in that he only trusts a select few people, and it’s his career as a spy that has made him unlikely to tell everyone the whole truth all the time.

Fury, of course, is occasionally a bit more controversial in how he chooses to help people. As the former director of SHIELD, Fury was involved in some morally gray plans to observe and proactively protect the people of the United States (and, to a degree, the world). However, regardless of controversies like collecting superhero DNA after the Battle of Earth, his goal to make the world a better place is unmistakable.

Spider-Man – Virgo

August 27

Peter Parker was born on August 27, making him a Virgo. This methodical type is known for taking joy in helping and taking care of others. They are a sign that is associated with duty, and they are always looking out for the greater good. As such, Virgo is a perfect astrological match for Peter Parker.

He is always about protecting others and living up to his duty as a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Virgos can also be quite obsessive about projects, something Parker can relate to as a “science nerd.” Moreover, Virgos often have an endearing innocence about them, which Parker demonstrates on repeat.

Falcon/Captain America (Sam Wilson) – Virgo/Libra Cusp

September 23

Sam Wilson about to give up Captain America's shield in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier

Sam Wilson’s birthday is September 23, 1978, as revealed in a promotional video released by Marvel for Latin American countries. That birth date puts him at the very end of the Virgo season, on the cusp of being a Libra, and both signs are actually a great fit for Sam. Though they’re often recognized for their organizational skills, Virgos are the nurturers of the zodiac who tend to take care of their friends, just as Sam does during his Captain America: The Winter Soldier introduction.

However, Sam also has a lot of Libra traits, including his charm and tendency to work with a partner, as well as his strong sense of justice. In The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Sam showcases how his charisma and charm can instigate change in addition to violence. Moreover, Captain America: Brave New World seems set to give him another partner after Steve’s retirement in a new Falcon, Joaquin Torres.

War Machine – Libra

October 8

Rhodey in the War Machine armor in the MCU

James Rhodes, known as Rhodey, was born on October 8, 1968, which makes him a Libra. This sign is known for being more focused on working with others than individualism, which makes sense given Rhodey’s status as part of one of the MCU’s best superhero duos, alongside his best friend Iron Man. He’s also maintained his position in the government to enact systematic change.

Rhodey was initially played by Terrence Howard in Iron Man but was replaced with Don Cheadle for all future appearances due to contract disputes.

Libras are also associated with the Scales of Justice and being objective; they want to do what’s best for everyone and care about fairness. This is very in line with Rhodey’s personality and the ways that he is often one of the most objective members of the team, always thinking about justice and logic. Of course, analyzing Rhoney is complicated by his replacement by a Skrull as revealed in Secret Invasion. It’s hitherto unclear when the switch happened.

Black Widow – Scorpio

November

Natasha Romanoff was born on November 22, 1984, making her a Scorpio, and the sign is a great fit. Scorpios are serious types who don’t like to waste time and are great at gathering secrets, which perfectly matches Natasha’s spy skill set. Known for their ability to get to the bottom of things, Scorpios are one of the fiercest signs in the zodiac and a perfect fit for Black Widow.

Of course, as Black Widow’s MCU timeline progressed, the secretive side of the character made way for one not afraid to work in the light as a symbol of change. Her pragmatism remained until her end, however, as she insisted on her own sacrifice for the Soul Stone in Avengers: Endgame.

Doctor Strange – Scorpio

November 11

Doctor Strange was born on November 11. Like Black Widow, he is a Scorpio. While the two characters seem very different, they both exemplify their zodiac sign well. Scorpios are stubborn and determined, and they tend to go after what they want in life, as Doctor Strange did, stealing magical books to complete his training faster.

This has continued during Strange’s appearances in the MCU. Though whip-smart and an expert in his field, Strange often finds himself in trouble by exploring elements of the mystic arts that are best left alone. However, this risk-taking and determination have also kept him as one of the foremost defenders of Earth from would-be threats.

Hulk – Sagittarius

December 18

Bruce Banner was born on December 18, making him a Sagittarius. People of this sign are known for being truth-seekers who are always looking for knowledge and are often called the philosophers of the zodiac. They are ruled by the planet Jupiter, which is all about philosophy, truth, and travel.

Sagittarians tend to be very enthusiastic when pursuing information and learning, which sounds just like Banner. While there have been some changes to Bruce Banner since Endgame, he is still all about scientific learning and discovery. When first attempting to get rid of or tame his Hulk side, he traveled the world in search of a cure and has since visited many planets. This will presumably continue as he explores newfound fatherhood.

Hawkeye – Capricorn

January 7

Hawkeye shoots a grabble arrow as he falls from a roof in The Avengers (2012)

Clint was born on January 7, 1971, making him a Capricorn. This sign is known for being about hard work and for being determined and ambitious. This makes sense for Hawkeye, as he has no superpowers but has worked hard to be able to hold his own alongside those of the Avengers who do.

Capricorns are also known for being practical and stubborn, two traits that Hawkeye often embodies. This sign is all about achieving goals through pragmatism and hard work, traits MCU Hawkeye exemplifies as he never gives up. No matter how often he wants to retire from the job, he puts in the work to be the hero the world needs, even when they don’t appreciate him.

Winter Soldier – Pisces

March 10

Bucky Barnes' Winter Soldier with his HYDRA arm in Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Bucky Barnes is a fan-favorite character who was born on March 10, 1917, and this makes him a Pisces. Pisces are known as the chameleons of the zodiac and are often emotional individuals with a strong moral compass. Though this may not have been the case during his unwilling time as the Winter Soldier, it certainly applies to Bucky’s journey overall.

While Barnes might not have always been able to act under his own morals, given his traumatic experiences as the Winter Soldier, his experiences before and after this time prove that he’s a considerate and heroic person. Pisces are also known for putting others above themselves, which makes sense given how Bucky used to take care of Steve Rogers before Steve received his Super-Soldier serum. Bucky has continued to dedicate his life to atoning for his perceived sins in the MCU, even though they were committed aginst his will and without his input.
