With the X-Men set to make their debut in the MCU very soon, Marvel Studios could adapt one iconic story to solve a major issue with Secret Invasion.

Marvel Studios’ upcoming X-Men reboot can solve major problems with Phase 5’s Secret Invasion, by bringing one of Marvel Comics’ most memorable Captain Marvel storylines into the MCU. Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige confirmed that mutants and the X-Men would be joining the MCU in 2019, shortly after Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, but the integration of mutants into the MCU has been slow. Ms. Marvel’s Kamala Khan, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s Namor and several minor characters in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law have been confirmed to be mutants in the MCU, laying the foundations for the full X-Men team.

X-Men members from 20th Century Fox’s X-Men franchise are expected to return in the MCU’s future, particularly in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine, 2026’s Avengers 5 and 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars. However, Marvel Studios will also soon reinvent the X-Men completely, recasting these coveted roles and developing fresh new stories for the MCU’s official X-Men reboot. This creates the opportunity for some of Marvel Comics’ most intense and shocking X-Men-focused stories to be adapted for the MCU, and some of these storylines could actually help to solve major past criticisms of previous Marvel Studios projects, including Phase 5’s Secret Invasion series.

Rogue Shouldn’t Take Captain Marvel’s Powers In The MCU

The rivalry between Carol Danvers’ Captain Marvel and X-Men member Rogue in Marvel Comics has been incredibly persistent, leading back to one of Rogue’s first chronological stories in Marvel Comics, which saw her steal Danvers’ abilities. While Danvers was operating as Ms. Marvel, Rogue was manipulated by her adoptive mother, Mystique, to steal Danvers’ powers, hoping to use them to free captured members of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Rogue and Ms. Marvel’s battle ended with Danvers’ powers and memories being stolen, with Rogue then throwing her off the Golden Gate Bridge, and attacking the Avengers with her newfound abilities.

This storyline established Rogue as a powerful villain in her early Marvel Comics career, and set Carol Danvers on a journey that saw her become even more empowered as Binary, so it would be great to see in the MCU. However, despite the recent disappointment of The Marvels, and undue criticism aimed at her since her MCU debut in 2019’s Captain Marvel, Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers deserves a longer career in the MCU. Danvers shouldn’t have her abilities taken so soon, as she deserves more time to grow and develop, but Marvel Studios may have already introduced the perfect replacement.

Rogue Could Steal G’iah’s Super Skrull Powers In The MCU

Carol Danvers isn’t the only character in the MCU who has the abilities of Captain Marvel, so Marvel Studios could replace her with another new hero for the battle against Rogue in the MCU’s future. 2023’s Secret Invasion debuted Emilia Clarke’s Skrull G’iah, Talos’ daughter, who became empowered with the DNA inside the Harvest in Secret Invasion’s finale. After becoming the Super Skrull, G’iah had access to the abilities of characters such as the Hulk, Thanos, Mantis, Captain America, the Black Panther and, indeed, Captain Marvel, making her one of the most powerful and formidable superheroes in the current MCU.

Note: Only six characters with DNA-based abilities weren’t featured in Secret Invasion’s Harvest: Spider-Man, Star-Lord, Nebula, Miek, Rocket Raccoon and the Scarlet Witch.

The fact that G’iah has Captain Marvel’s abilities, and a whole range of other powers thanks to the mixture inside the Harvest, means that she could be the perfect target for Rogue in the MCU’s X-Men reboot. Having Rogue steal G’iah’s abilities would allow Marvel Studios to bring this iconic storyline and rivalry to live-action, but would still be able to keep Carol Danvers’ Captain Marvel in the MCU. This could even act as some form of redemption for Marvel Studios, as the studio may be looking to gloss over and rectify recent mistakes, such as those in Secret Invasion.

G’iah’s Powers Being Stolen Solve A Major MCU Phase 5 Issue

Secret Invasion unfortunately became one of the MCU’s lowest-rated projects, with many criticizing the poor adaptation of the epic Marvel Comics storyline. Concerns also arose surrounding G’iah’s evolution into the Super Skrull, as she very quickly became one of the most overpowered characters in the MCU, and is now seemingly unstoppable. This poses a problem for future MCU stories, as G’iah could simply pop up and save the day with very little effort, but having Rogue steal her abilities in the MCU’s X-Men reboot can actually thwart this issue, and perhaps give more emotional weight to Secret Invasion’s own storyline.
