“Treat it like Kurosawa”: Beau DeMayo Won’t Return to X-Men ‘97, But His ‘Logan Styled’ Blade Pitch for Wesley Snipes is a Gold Mine That Kevin Feige Will be Foolish to Ignore

Wesley Snipes returned as Blade in Deadpool & Wolverine. After Ryan Reynolds, Beau DeMayo has an incredible pitch for a fourth Blade film.

Wesley Snipes’ Blade helped kick off the rise of the superhero genre in Hollywood. While most attribute the first X-Men film and Spider-Man to be the two franchises that reinvigorated the genre, Snipes’ vampire superhero proved to be Marvel’s first successful film. Fans are now looking at Blade as the beginning of Marvel’s domination in the superhero genre.

Snipes made a surprise return as Blade in the recent MCU film Deadpool & Wolverine. The actor’s spectacular special appearance thrilled audiences and proved that he hasn’t lost his mojo. Ryan Reynolds recently expressed his interest in seeing a Logan-style send-off for Blade. X-Men ’97 creator Beau DeMayo has an amazing pitch for a fourth Blade film with Snipes.

Beau DeMayo Wants A Potential Fourth Blade Movie To Be A Kurosawa-Inspired Vampire Saga

Blade Trinity was the last solo Blade film with Wesley Snipes | New Line Cinema

Wesley Snipes’ vampire superhero Blade graced the screens with its first film in 1998. Unlike many of the clear-cut family-friendly Marvel features that came before, Snipes’ film became a groundbreaking genre entry with its dark and gritty tone. Its R-rating certainly gave it an extra edge with how it presented its gore and violence.

Snipes returned as the character in Blade II and Blade: Trinity, with the latter being the last time that he properly played the character. After 20 years, the actor returned as the character in Deadpool & Wolverine and it was a return to form for the actor after the negative reception to Blade: Trinity. There has been a desire to see a potential fourth film with Snipes.

Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds pitched a Logan-style sendoff film for Snipes’ Blade in a recent social media post. X-Men ’97 creator Beau DeMayo shared the news regarding the same on X while also pitching an exciting narrative for the potential film. He wants the film to have the vibe of Akira Kurosawa’s films where humans resurrect Blade to get rid of a vampire dystopia. DeMayo wrote, Vampire dystopia where they learned to daywalk and took over. Humans are cattle. Brother Voodoo, part of the human resistance, learns #Blade was desiccated/entombed and resurrects him so they can hunt Varney and the Darkhold cult to wipe out all vampires. Treat it like Kurosawa.

DeMayo’s pitch is indeed intriguing and it would be fascinating to watch his narrative played out in a potential fourth film. While Kevin Feige is rebooting the IP with Mahershala Ali in the lead, they have been having trouble cracking the film’s script. Incorporating DeMayo’s idea for a possible Snipes-led film or even for Ali’s reboot feature will be a great approach for a new Blade movie.

Wesley Snipes Was Not Physically Ready When He Was Approached For Deadpool & Wolverine

Fans loved Wesley Snipes' return as Blade in Deadpool & Wolverine | Marvel Studios

Wesley Snipes returned as the vampire-slaying superhero Blade in Deadpool & Wolverine. He hadn’t played the character for 20 years since Blade: Trinity and when Ryan Reynolds approached him for a special appearance in the film, he was initially nervous. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Snipes revealed that he had not been physically fit enough to play the character.

The actor was concerned about the level of action he had to do in the film and whether he would be able to pull it off. He trained hard and he got the body right. Thankfully, the Blade star was able to do his action sequences in the film. Snipes revealed,

I wasn’t Blade-ready, man. I don’t walk around as Blade every day, you know what I mean? With a trench coat and shades and fangs in my mouth. We had to work out. We definitely had to get the body, and my biggest concern was being in condition enough to deal with whatever the action was

Thankfully, I didn’t have to do as much as I thought I would because the action movies are tough. They’re not easy at all by any means. About a month into it, I got the body right… and then, with the help of a little customized foam well placed in certain areas, it was all good to go, baby. Let’s ride!

Snipes also revealed how he gave his blessings to Mahershala Ali for the new reboot and also pointed out the difficulties that the studio is facing with the project. The actor’s fantastic return proved that it would be a hard task for Ali to recreate the magic of the character. Fans can watch Snipes’ return in Deadpool & Wolverine in theatres.
