Tom Hiddleston’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe gets a new update as the longtime Loki actor chimes in on whether or not he is done.

Loki's perfect ending in Loki season 2

Tom Hiddleston offers up a new response on whether or not he is fully done playing Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It has been nearly a year since the ending of Loki season 2 changed the fate forever for one of the MCU’s oldest characters, as the God of Mischief became the God of Time. However, when it comes to the MCU, no one is truly gone, as Kevin Feige and his Marvel Studios team always find ways to revisit beloved characters whose run may have gotten a traditional ending.

The question of whether Loki season 2 was really the end for Hiddleston has come up repeatedly since the end in November 2023, and the British star was asked once again about it during a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. While he had given a cautious update on a potential Loki season 3, Hiddleston gave a different response this time with the following:

I don’t know. I really don’t know. I know that we’ve reached some sort of narrative conclusion with season 2, which feels very satisfying to me. I’m aware that he’s made some interesting choices, which could be accumulated into a picture that looks like he’s a villain, and once upon a time, he was making some misguided choices. You know, trying to take over New York and the Avengers having to assemble to stop him, that was a bad day in the office. I’d like to think that you know, 14 years later, he’s making some slightly more generous, loving and heroic choices.

Loki Has Two Big Potential Returns In The MCU

The MCU’s Sacred Timeline Still Has A Future… Somehow

Despite his fate, Loki’s return to the MCU is possible through very crucial chapters in The Multiverse Saga. One of them is 2024’s only MCU movie outing, as Hiddleston could be part of the Deadpool & Wolverine cast, given the involvement of the TVA in the film and the explicit mention of the Sacred Timeline still being in play. That suggestion in the CinemaCon footage all-but confirms Deadpool & Wolverine is set before Loki’s ending. Since the story of Deadpool & Wolverine is about preserving the safety of the Sacred Timeline, this could be an organic way to feature Hiddleston’s Loki in at least a cameo.

The second MCU film that Loki could theoretically show up in is Avengers Secret Wars, which is rumored to be a soft reboot of the MCU going forward. Any major multiverse story bringing together conflicting realities would surely have to involve the controller of the timelines, logically. It is possible that Loki’s new role as the God of Time could come to be very helpful in Avengers: Secret Wars, and perhaps be the ultimate reason the heroes save the multiverse even if it leads to a new status quo.

In the end, Hiddleston is correct in that Loki season 2 was a solid conclusion to his character if that was meant to be his final time playing the character. However, knowing Marvel Studios is aware of how much love there is for Loki in the audience, it is only a matter of time before he comes back to the MCU. But for now, the world can relive every season of Loki and other MCU projects that Hiddleston has starred in through Blu-Ray/DVD and on streaming.
