Actor Charlie Cox is all set to return as Daredevil in the Disney Plus series Daredevil: Born Again. The show has had a tumultuous development process as it was filmed and then rewritten after a creative overhaul. The show finally seems to be at a place where all the stakeholders are satisfied and is expected to premiere in 2025.

Cox and his co-star Vincent D’Onofrio reportedly attended a Fan Expo in Boston, where they gave a few updates and made some remarks about the new show. Connected to their Netflix show, the actors confirmed that it was at a place where they were happy with the show. Cox also mentioned that fans of the hallway fight scene from the Netflix show would be satisfied, too.

Charlie Cox Teases A Classic Oner Like The Hallway Fight Scene in Daredevil: Born Again

Actor Charlie Cox played the role of Matt Murdock a.k.a Daredevil in the Netflix/Marvel show Daredevil. After three well-received seasons, the show was unceremoniously canceled, along with other shows such as Defenders, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage. With the merging of Marvel Television with the main studio, Murdock reappeared in the MCU.

The revival show Daredevil: Born Again began development in 2022 and had filmed a few episodes before the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. However, it went through a creative overhaul after Marvel President Kevin Feige was reportedly dissatisfied with the output. The revamped season began filming earlier this year (via THR).

In a recent appearance at a Fan Expo in Boston, Charlie Cox mentioned that the series was at a place where they were all happy and that it was connected to the Netflix series. He also gave one exciting update for the fans of the original show.

The hallway fight scene in Daredevil season one set a new precedent for the action choreography in Marvel shows and films. Filmed as a long one-take, the fight sequence immediately cemented the show as one of the greats, and the style was repeated in subsequent seasons.

Daredevil’s Hallway Fight Scene Was A Homeage To Oldboy

The long take sequences, or ‘oners’ are always a treat to watch when executed perfectly. Be it short scenes like the opening credits of Baby Driver or entire films made to look like there were no cuts such as Birdman and 1917, incredible amounts of effort from various departments go into crafting and choreographing the perfect take.

The Netflix show Daredevil became a master at perfecting the long-take action sequence. The first season’s hallway fight scene remains a classic that brought a fresh approach to Marvel’s usual fast-cut choreography. According to stunt performer Chris Brewster, the scene was a tribute to Park Chan-Wook’s cult classic, Oldboy. He said to EW,

We wanted to pay tribute to it but also try to level it up because otherwise, it’s just a bad copycat. You always want to give some element that wasn’t in the original thing. So, we were like, obviously, Oldboy is just about as master class as you can get, but because they were just two-dimensional with all the action, let’s see if we can make the camerawork more three-dimensional.

A similar but more complex one-take fight sequence was shown in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3, which reportedly took a year of work in post-production.
