“This isn’t the flex she thinks it is”: Emily Blunt Upsets Marvel Fans With Her Condescending Remark Despite Almost Joining The Avengers

Emily Blunt has expressed her regrets about not joining Iron Man 2 due to her previous commitments.

Emily Blunt was last seen in the action comedy The Fall Guy, in which she starred opposite Ryan Gosling. The film satirically depicted many of the behind-the-scenes incidents that occur on the sets of large-scale blockbuster films of the present day. Blunt played the role of a director who was helming an epic sci-fi fantasy in the film.

Though diverse, Blunt’s filmography is lacking in the superhero genre. While the actress has been in musicals and adventure films, she has yet to don a costume, which she revealed in a recent interview that she wears as a badge of honor. However, Blunt was almost cast as Black Widow in Iron Man 2 and had to give up on the opportunity due to contractual obligations.

Emily Blunt Dissed Superhero Films In A Recent Interview

Emily Blunt has been one of the most prolific actresses working in Hollywood right now. The star rode the success of Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, where she played Kitty Oppenheimer and was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. The actress has since appeared in The Fall Guy and had a voice role in husband John Krasinski’s IF.

Blunt has yet to appear in a superhero film, despite being an extremely bankable actress. Though she has starred in blockbusters such as Edge of Tomorrow, Mary Poppins Returns, and Jungle Cruise, much of her filmography has leaned more towards performance-heavy roles, including the survival horror A Quiet Place.

Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt share a romantic moment in The Fall Guy

The actress recently mentioned how she was disappointed with Ryan Gosling’s desire to play Ghost Rider in the MCU. Blunt mentioned in an interview with MTV News that she wore her lack of appearance in a superhero film as a badge of honor. She said, Do you remember, Josh [Horowitz], when you asked me about Ryan being in a superhero and I said ‘No, Ryan, he would never do it’? I thought we wore it as a badge of honor that we weren’t in superhero movies…I don’t know why I just thought, ‘Well, Gosling’s with me’. What a turncoat!

During the interview with Josh Horowitz, Ryan Gosling invited Emily Blunt to be in Ghost Rider with him, to which she did not respond.

Emily Blunt Almost Joined The Avengers But Chose Gulliver’s Travels Instead

Actress Emily Blunt’s comments about wearing her lack of appearance in a superhero film as a badge of honor have drawn the ire of Marvel fans. Fans have criticized the actress for berating the genre while having been offered a role in the MCU before, which she could not take up and was eventually replaced by Scarlett Johansson.

Emily Blunt was reportedly in consideration for the role of Natasha Romanoff a.k.a Black Widow in Iron Man 2. Though she eventually did not get it, the actress reportedly was a frontrunner for the role but could not take it up due to contractual obligations to Fox Studios. The actress then had to appear in Jack Black’s Gulliver’s Travels in the same year.

According to Deadline, the actress was also in the running for Captain Marvel but she mentioned that there were rumors and that she never had any conversations with the studio. The actress expressed her disappointment with not being able to take up the role due to Gulliver’s Travels on The Howard Stern Show. She said, It was a bit of a heartbreaker for me because I take such pride in the decisions that I make, and they mean so much to me, the films that I do, so that was tough. They [Fox] kind of have a bit of a hold over you. There were other movies that I would want to do.

Scarlett Johansson would go on to play the role in multiple films, including a solo film which released in 2021. Fans were annoyed at Emily Blunt’s seemingly hypocritical comments about the superhero genre, despite expressing regrets over not being able to join the MCU.
