X-Men ‘97 has been renewed for a second season but the departure of showrunner Beau DeMayo has fans worried about a drop in quality.
X-Men ‘97 is nearing the end of its first season, with the final episode set to release next week. Given the show’s popularity and critical acclaim, it is no surprise that the series has already been renewed for a second installment. However, creator Beau DeMayo will not be involved in the second season after his unceremonious firing.
X-Men ‘97 will return for season 2 but without showrunner Beau DeMayo
Lenore Zann, who voices Rogue in the animated series has now provided fans with an update on the second season. At the same time, Zann reassured fans that the second season will hit all the right notes and be as great as its predecessor despite DeMayo’s exit. Here is what Zann had to say about the upcoming X-Men ‘97 season 2.
Rogue Voice Actor Lenore Zann Gives Major X-Men ‘97 Season 2 Update
Lenore Zann voices Rogue, who plays an important role in the first season of X-Men ‘97. The show’s first season will wrap up with the final part of the Tolerance Is Extinction storyline airing on May 22, 2024. However, the series has already been renewed for a second season.
In an interview with Nexuspointnews, Zann provided fans with an update regarding the second installment. She confirmed that she had recorded her line for the new episodes with minor ADR work still in progress. She stated: “I’ve done my lines and I love it. It’s an incredible script, see, you’re gonna love it, the same as this one, it’s just fantastic.”
Zann’s words imply that the quality of writing for the second season will not dip, despite showrunner Beau DeMayo‘s departure. DeMayo’s exit left fans concerned that the show’s quality could drop in its sophomore outing.
Before his exit, DeMayo had reportedly completed his writing duties for season 2. Therefore, despite minor changes to the scripts, Zann seems confident that the second season will maintain the same quality as the first one. Moreover, Zann also seemed to confirm that season 2 will arrive sooner than expected, with voice recording nearly wrapped.
Lenore Zann Shares Hopes For an X-Men ‘97 Feature Film
During the same interview, Zann was asked whether she would like to see the X-Men ‘97 characters appear in any other series that are being developed under Marvel Studios. In response, Zann stated that she enjoyed the show’s crossover with the 90s Spider-Man and would be open to such occurrences.
Rouge voice actress Lenore Zann wants to see X-Men ’97 on the big screen
However, Zann revealed that she was most excited at the prospect of X-Men ‘97 getting a theatrical film. “I think from what I’ve heard from fans that an X-Men animated feature film would go over extremely well, so I’m hoping that that might happen at some day.”
Zann made the above statement, voicing her desire to see Rogue and her mutant friends crossing over to the big screen.
Recently, there has been fan clamor to see X-Men ‘97 directors helm the MCU reboot of the live-action X-Men franchise. Hence, it is not outside the realm of possibility to hope for an X-Men ‘97 feature film in the near future.
X-Men ‘97 season 2 currently does not have a known release date while the first season is streaming on Disney+.
