The Real Reason Pete Davidson & Madelyn Cline Broke Up, Revealed

Unlike his other high-profile relationships, they stayed mostly out of the spotlight.

Why Did Pete Davidson, Madelyn Cline Break Up?

Pete Davidson and Madelyn Cline have broken up after nearly a year together. Unlike the SNL alum’s other relationships (Kim Kardashian, Ariana Grande, Kaia Gerber, for example), these two largely kept out of the spotlight. So why did they break up?

US Weekly was the first to report Cline and Davidson were dating, that was in September 2023. In November, a source told Page Six that things were going great between them. “Things are going really well with Madelyn and Pete, but they’re trying their best to keep a low-key romance,” the source continued. “They have both dated people in the public eye before and are trying to maintain more privacy this time around.”

The last we heard, according to Us Weekly, the two were “very much in love” in April 2024. But a source told The Sun US that it was all over in an article published on July 9, 2024.

Why did Pete Davidson and Madelyn Cline break up?

A source told The Sun US that things between Davidson and Cline had simply. “fizzled out” and there are no hard feelings on either side. “They ended things fairly recently, and I understand it was amicable,” the insider said.

Actress Madelyn Cline and comedian/actor Pete Davidson are seen leaving Pete Davidson's comedy show on January 28, 2024 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

It fits a pattern with Davidson, whose past few relationships have lasted less than a year. His last girlfriend before Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, lasted about a year. Kim Kardashian, perhaps his most notable relationship, lasted nine months.

Outside of his relationships, Davidson has been prioritizing his mental health, though he’s certainly faced challenges in that aspect of his life. Relentless hecklers have soured his Prehab comedy tour so badly that in a few instances, he’s walked off stage before the show was over.

Most of the heckling has been centered on his past relationships, with one audience member yelling out “Ariana Grande!” during a show in Omaha, Nebraska. “He responded ‘Shut up!’ In an appropriate but irritated way,” observed one fan on Reddit who claimed to be in the audience.

During and after his relationship with Kim Kardashian, Davidson faced the wrath of Kim’s ex, Kanye West—the online bullying got so bad that Davidson had to get trauma therapy for it. “The attention and negativity coming from Kanye and his antics is a trigger for [Pete] and he’s had to seek out help,” an insider told People in August 2022.
