The MCU Just Confirmed A Major Vampire Weakness Before Blade Even Debuts

Blade (2025) is set to finally be released in November 2025 if there are no further delays to production, but more than a year ahead of the film, a major vampire weakness has already been revealed in the MCU. The history of vampires in comic books has led to these supernatural creatures having a broad range of myths and legends that align with popular fiction, and some that stand out as unique to Marvel. In addition, Marvel has followed several distinct types of vampire, from fully fledged blood suckers, to the daywalkers, like Blade, and pseudo-vampires like Morbius who altered their DNA.

However, the MCU has only flirted with vampires up to this point, with references to these creatures appearing in the Marvel Special Presentation, Werewolf by Night, and now another mention in Agatha All Along. While there is still much to be revealed about vampires as they exist within the MCU, there is a clear confirmation that they exist on the supernatural plane. For now, vampires have only been mentioned in connection with these smaller projects, but when Blade is finally released, the MCU will have to be clear about how they fit into the world.

The MCU Revealed Witches Are Immune To Vampire Bites

Magic Is A Clear Weakness For MCU

Despite the lack of vampires in the MCU so far, the most recent reference from Agatha All Along has revealed some important details about how they work in the movies. Lilia Calderu, played by Patti LuPone, is one of the witches that Agatha recruits into her makeshift coven in order to walk the Witches Road. And in episode 4, Lilia reveals that she has been bitten by a vampire in the past. However, she clearly did not turn into a vampire.

Agatha All Along is the latest series to explore the more magical and supernatural side of the MCU, an aspect that’s barely been touched in the grand scheme of both the Infinity and Multiverse Sagas. While 2025’s Ironheart will reportedly feature some supernatural elements with Anthony Ramos’ The Hood and Mahershala Ali’s Blade is supposedly still on the way (someday), I’m fascinated by what else the MCU might have in store when it comes to the supernatural. A Scarlet Witch movie would be fantastic depending on how things end with Agatha All Along, as would another season of Moon Knight, or even more spooky special presentations like 2022’s Werewolf by Night.

Typically, a vampire bite is one of the sure ways for a human to turn into a vampire, so this suggests that Lilia found a way to stave off a transformation. Considering her status as a witch, it’s highly likely that she was able to use magic as a way to stop this change. However, in the comics, there have only ever been a handful of ways revealed that can cure a vampire, or help to stop someone from turning into these immortal creatures of the night.

Cures To Vampirism In Marvel Comics & Movies

It’s Possible To Reverse The Vampire Disease

In Marvel Comics, vampires exist in a couple of forms as mentioned above, but for the purpose of clarity, this article is looking at regular, blood-sucking, night-dwelling, fully-fledged vampires. These creatures have plagued parts of the supernatural realm in Marvel Comics, but they have also crossed over with mainline heroes on occasion. However, despite sinking their teeth into people like Black Widow, the heroes have found ways to fight the vampire genes and cure the disease.

In Black Widow’s case, they used a sterilized sample of the Hulk’s radioactive blood to stop her from transforming. The radiated blood is able to burn and destroy the vampire cells before they take hold, which means that beings like Bruce Banner appear to be immune, but his blood can also be an effective preventative measure. But in the case of people who complete their transformation, there is still some hope for new vampires. In those cases, killing the siring vampire can effectively reverse the transformation. There have also been instances of the Heart-Shaped Herb of Wakanda curing vampirism.

Marvel’s Blade Movie Needs To Properly Introduce Vampires To The MCU

However, the MCU has yet to lay the ground rules for how vampires operate inside the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In every story that features vampires, there is always some sort of variation to the lore. Whether they can walk in the sunlight, have a weakness to magic, if they can survive and thrive on alternative blood sources, all of these are subject to change depending on the storyteller. As far as the movies are concerned, vampires are a new breed of creature to play with, and so they can really make the characters as they see fit.

However, considering how popular they are in other stories, there are certain expectations around the name, vampire. Marvel has a chance to introduce details about these creatures ahead of Blade, but the bulk of exploring these characters is likely to happen in the upcoming film. Blade is a character whose backstory is directly connected to vampires, and he himself is a half-vampire. This means that Blade will need to clearly establish where they fit into the wider MCU, how they have stayed hidden up to this point, and how they survive.
