New Christmas Movies: From 'The Merry Gentlemen' To 'Nutcrackers'

Lindsay Lohan has become the queen of Netflix films. She’s also the queen of new Christmas movies in 2024. The erstwhile child star has the No. 1 new holiday film of the season, and it’s not even close.

Her Our Little Secret outranks films starring Lacey Chabert, the longtime Hallmark staple who has a new Netflix movie, and comedian Jack Black, whose fun Christmas film scored for Paramount+.

That’s according to data provided by Samba TV, a provider of TV technology for audience data and omniscreen measurement. Its breakdown of the top 10 new streaming Christmas films, measured from November 1 to December 10, puts Secret squarely at the top.

The film has attracted 3,293,332 U.S. households in that span. By comparison, the No. 2 new Christmas movie, Chabert’s Hot Frosty, also on Netflix, drew 2,332,865 in that same timeframe.

Lindsay Lohan’s Latest Tops New Christmas Movies And Her Previous Netflix Films

Our Little Secret may become Lohan’s best film yet on Netflix, where she signed a multi-movie deal. Her previous holiday effort, Falling for Christmas, bowed to 989,000 households two years ago, though that was measured in a smaller window.

Last spring’s Irish Wish, a St. Patrick’s Day-themed movie, drew very similar numbers. Clearly, people are getting used to looking for Lohan around the holidays. And the streaming service has benefitted from the semiannual publicity over Lohan’s comeback after years where her personal life made more headlines than her professional accomplishments.

In Our Little Secret, Lohan and an ex unwittingly end up dating siblings, setting them up for an unexpected reunion at the holidays, which leads to an equally unexpected (for them, not for viewers) rekindling of their romantic feelings.

Netflix Dominates Other Top New Christmas Movies

Netflix has become the Hallmark Channel of streaming. Like the latter cable network known for its formulaic but hugely popular holiday tales, Netflix has made a major investment in the genre, and it has paid off.

The service boasts six of the top seven new Christmas movies of the year. Behind Our Little Secret and Hot Frosty, in which Chabert matches with a hot snowman who comes to life, Netflix’s Meet Me Next Christmas (2,052,469 households) and The Merry Gentlemen (1,959,697) rank No. 3 and 4.

Meet Me Next Christmas features another Netflix holiday romcom stalwart, Christina Milian, as a woman trying to get tickets to a sold-out Pentatonix concert—who falls in love along her journey through New York City.

The Merry Gentlemen is a shameless opportunity to get former teen heartthrob Chad Michael Murray to take his shirt off, and it works. He and a few other men agree to stage a holiday male revue to raise money for a failing bar, and, yes, romance the bar’s owners’ daughter.

Jack Black’s ‘Dear Santa’ Ranks No. 5 In New Christmas Movies

Paramount+ has only one top 10 new Christmas film, but it’s a solid entry. At No. 5, Jack Black’s sweetly funny Dear Santa features a kid who accidentally summons Satan (Black) when he means to write a letter to Santa. The film has posted 1,494,283 households.
