Sydney Sweeney Responds Harshly After 27 Days of Madame Web Failure!

Following weeks of jokes about Madame Web bombing at the box office, Sydney Sweeney gets honest about what she feels regarding the movie’s failure.

Sydney Sweeney as Julia Carpenter/Spider-Woman in Madame Web

Sydney Sweeney has responded to the criticism surrounding Madame Web with a blunt comment. The latest release from Sony’s Spider-Man Universe was doomed right from its opening day, with negative Madame Web reviews reportedly contributing to many canceling their tickets. Since the movie’s release, Madame Web has become the subject of many jokes, with its cast even getting in on them, showing their stance on the Sony Marvel film.

Speaking to the Los Angeles Times about the Madame Web criticism, Sweeney said, “I was just hired as an actress in it, so I was just along for the ride for whatever was going to happen.” The actress had already previously touched on the film’s disappointing reception, with Sweeney joking on Saturday Night Live that viewers definitely did not watch her in Madame Web. With the movie’s overwhelming negative reception and stars like Sweeney and Dakota Johnson moving on from it, the chances of Madame Web 2 happening are extremely unlikely.

How Sydney Sweeney Could Have A Marvel Life After Madame Web

The Actress Is The Fan-Favorite For A Possible MCU Anti-Hero

While Madame Web bombed, it does not mean that Sweeney’s presence in superhero movies has to end. The actress could leave Sony’s Spider-Man Universe behind after Madame Web and join the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a few different ways. With Zendaya’s MJ not remembering who Tom Holland’s Peter Parker is, Sweeney could play the Marvel character she is the fan-favorite for: Black Cat.

Sweeney has shown in Anyone but You that she would excel in the push-and-pull relationship that Peter Parker and Felicia Hardy have in the comics. Besides joining Spider-Man 4 as Black Cat, Sweeney could play some X-Men characters in the franchise’s upcoming reboot under Marvel Studios. The actress would be a great pick for a young Emma Frost, which would allow Sweeney to show the full scope of her acting skills, given how nuanced of a character Emma Frost is.

Another X-Men role the actress could take on is that of Magik. Illyana Rasputin is a brutal fighter who also happens to be a flirt. Sweeney’s roles in Euphoria and The White Lotus have shown that the actress has the necessary energy to bring such a strong-willed character like Magik to life. Other characters Sweeney could play in the MCU include Gwen Stacy opposite Holland’s Peter Parker and that of Black Widow in the rumored MCU reboot post-Avengers: Secret Wars, which would help leave her Madame Web role in the past.
