Vision Quest will feature the return of a surprising Iron Man villain. The upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe series will follow Vision (Paul Bettany) after the events of WandaVision and will see James Spader playing Ultron again. Terry Matalas, who previously worked on the 12 Monkeys television series and Star Trek: Picard, is the showrunner for the MCU’s Vision Quest. Todd Stashwick, who starred in 12 Monkeys and Picard, has also been cast in an undisclosed role.
Deadline has now revealed that Raza, the leader of the Ten Rings terrorist cell that tried to kill Tony Stark, will also be in Vision Quest. Faran Tahir will be reprising the role that he first played in the 2008 Iron Man movie. While Iron Man is Tahir’s lone MCU appearance so far, he has a wide range of experience in other projects, including his film debut as Nathoo in Disney’s 1994 The Jungle Book, Starfleet’s Captain Robau in J.J. Abrams’ 2009 Star Trek movie, and as President Rashad in the final season of ABC’s hit series Scandal.
What This Means For Vision Quest
The Ten Rings Are Likely Connected To The Spinoff
Raza’s unexpected return in Vision Questindicates that the Ten Rings will have an important role to play in the WandaVision spinoff. Even though Raza has not appeared since Iron Man, he was mentioned in a Shang-Chi deleted flashback scene in which Wenwu (Tony Leung Chiu-wai) mentions a meeting with Raza. This may have been planting the seeds for the character to return and to represent the Ten Rings in a future MCU project.
Not only could Vision Quest feature Raza, but it could also feature Xu Xialing (Meng’er Zhang) and show how the Ten Rings have evolved since Shang-Chi‘s post-credits scene that revealed her to now be in charge of the organization. The Ten Rings could be the primary antagonist for Vision, although it seems like a strange choice, and that a more technological foe like Ultron would be a more fitting foe, especially given how intertwined Ultron is with Vision’s creation. Regardless, Raza’s return has the Ten Rings poised to return in a major way in Vision Quest.
Our Take On Raza Returning In Vision Quest
The MCU Rarely Lets A Character Be Forgotten
Raza’s return is another example of how any MCU character, even from the earliest movies, has the potential to be in a new movie or series. Captain America: Brave New World‘s story features Tim Blake Nelson playing Samuel Sterns for the first time since The Incredible Hulk in 2008. From Iron Man to Scandal, Tahir’s performances are always memorable, no matter how small or large his part proves to be. It would be satisfying for him not only to be in Vision Quest, but to have a prominent role in the MCU series.
