Still not over: Muriel continues to be treated unfairly in Virgin River season 7 as the showrunner reveals her heartbreaking ending!

Fans of Virgin River have shared their frustration over the storyline which sees Muriel lose two men she is interested in – and they said she deserves to be happy.

Muriel Is the Most Underrated Character in Netflix's 'Virgin River'

Virgin River fans are demanding “justice for Muriel” after working out the heartbreaking end of the series.

In the Netflix show, Muriel (Teryl Rothery) has a romantic connection with Dr. Cameron Hayek (Mark Ghanime), but their relationship later ends due to complications including her cancer diagnosis and his desire to reconcile with a previous partner. In the series, Muriel also shows a romantic interest in Doc (Tim Matheson) but their relationship is complicated as the character is mainly paired with Hope – and he ultimately chooses her.

Fans have been left frustrated as the storyline doesn’t seem to have a happy ending for Muriel – as Doc moves on with Hope and Cameron, who reconnected with his ex-fiancée, Michelle, at the end of season 5, ends up leaving the show after appearing only in three episodes of season 6. Now, a fan has taken to Reddit to demand “justice for Muriel” and pointed out that she often ends up losing the men she is interested in.

The viewer wrote, “So I finally got to the Cameron storyline in season 5 and I admit it, as much as I actually wanted her with Doc they’ve won me over. They’re stupidly cute together. But I know he leaves the show permanently???? “So first she loses out on Doc and then Cameron just disappears, never to be seen again. Are they ever going to let this poor woman be happy? Who does she end up with in the books (I don’t mind spoilers)?”

Many other fans of the show took to the comment section to praise Muriel as one described the character as “sweet and caring, funny and smart.” The fan said, “I don’t know about the books but Muriel is the absolute BEST. she is sweet and caring, funny and smart. She’s drop dead gorgeous and just a goddamn delight. I would watch a prequel series on Muriel any day.”

Another person said they read the first six books by Robyn Carr – there are 22 in total – but Muriel is dating Walt Booth in the books. One more fan added Muriel “deserves a break and some happiness” while explaining, “She’s been suffering since day one, yet she’s still so kind and full of life. Like, seriously – I just wanna hug her and make her my bestie.

“I still haven’t recovered from the way they ended things with Muriel and Cameron. They were clearly meant to be endgame! Anyone paying attention could see that. I’m still holding out hope that he comes back in the next season- please, Netflix gods, do your thing! In the books, she is with Walt Booth, and yeah, they tried to introduce him this season, but… nope. No chemistry, no spark, nothing. He just doesn’t fit Muriel at all.

“After seeing her with Cameron, this new guy is just so boring. No personality, no energy – literally snooze-worthy. If Cameron doesn’t come back, they better bring in a new doctor who’s fun, charming, and full of life like she is! After all the third time is a charm. Justice for Muriel!!”

Another clarified, “I’m on book 16 of the series and Muriel is firmly with Walt. Doc Cameron is also a permanent fixture at the clinic and has his own partner and kids. The only age-gap relationships involve younger women and older men. There is one moment when book Denny asks out an older woman and she pretty much laughs it off as a mistake.”

Virgin River's most controversial romance is over before it began - Dexerto

The small-town romance primarily follows nurse practitioner Mel Monroe (played by Alexandra Breckenridge) who moves to the idyllic Northern Californian hamlet following a devastating tragedy. Once there, she soon falls in love with local bar owner and former Marine Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson) and gets to know the eccentric yet kind-hearted locals.

Among them are Jack’s best friend Preacher (Colin Lawrence) and Mel’s new boss Vernon “Doc” Mullins (Tim Matheson), who is married to the town’s mayor, Hope McCrea (Annette O’Toole). There are also several other couples going strong, such as Preacher’s new courtship with firefighter Kaia Bryant (Kandyse McClure) and young lovers Lizzie (Sarah Dugdale) and Doc’s grandson Denny (Kai Bradbury), who are expecting a baby.
