Timothy Olyphant is widely recognized for his roles as Cobb Vanth in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. The actor previously opened up about his experience of auditioning for the role of Tony Stark in the original 2008 Iron Man film. He appeared on The Playlist’s Binge-Worthy podcast and reflected upon the process and the emotions that followed.

I can only tell you that I remember thinking that was the first time where because I’m a bit of a slow learner and I think I was scared to death of the things that come with success in this business, but that was the time where I remember thinking, ‘Well, I can’t get any more grounded and so [auditioning for Iron Man] would be fun,’

He admitted that it was a bit daunting for him, given the scale and the production of the film, but despite his hesitation, the audition was a positive experience.

I think prior to that I was like, ‘Oh, I don’t want those kinds of problems.’ And I think part of that appeal was those conversations that I had with [Jon] Favreau – I just have a tremendous amount of respect for him and I just like the guy. He’s just a good dude.

Though he did not land that role, the director later cast him as Cobb Vanth, so it wasn’t a completely missed opportunity. While fans might speculate how he could’ve brought the character to life, the actor himself is content with the outcome.
