A major The Walking Dead star plays Peter Parker in a dark new Spider-Man horror fan film trailer. Tom Holland is set to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the anticipated Spider-Man 4, which is currently in development. Given the excitement over the returns of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield as their versions of Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home, the franchise is as popular as ever. That has led to an influx of Spider-Man fan art and films, and the latest fan film for the character includes an exciting lead actor.

locustgarden has shared the trailer for The Spider, a horror Spider-Man fan film starring The Walking Dead’s Chandler Riggs as Peter Parker. The actor famously played Carl Grimes in the zombie series.

The fan film’s trailer focuses on Riggs’ Peter Parker discovering that he has powers after getting bitten by a radioactive spider. The actor has yet to appear wearing a Spider-Man costume for The Spider, which would bring Riggs’ journey with Spider-Man movies full circle.

The Walking Dead Star Has An MCU Connection

The Spider will be the first time Riggs plays a version of Spider-Man; however, the actor previously tried out to play the character. The Walking Dead star was one of the actors who auditioned for the role of Peter Parker when it was revealed that Sony was teaming up with Marvel Studios to bring Spider-Man to the MCU after Andrew Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man 3 was canceled.

Riggs revealed to Comicbook.com’s Brandon Davis in 2018 that he had auditioned for the role of Spider-Man years prior. The Walking Dead’s Carl Grimes actor went on to reveal he never made it too far into the casting process to become the MCU’s Spider-Man, saying, “Yeah, I didn’t even get a call back. I just auditioned for it, and it’s fine.” Tom Holland ended up being cast as Marvel Studios’ Peter Parker, with the actor debuting in Captain America: Civil War before leading one of the most successful trilogies in superhero history.

While he did not play the MCU’s Spider-Man, the role could not have been cast better, with Holland becoming one of the faces of the cinematic universe as Peter Parker. Now, Riggs will get his chance to show he would have been a great Spider-Man, with The Spider’s horror take on the hero being a perfect fit for the actor, given his years of experience with the genre on The Walking Dead. The Spider is written and directed by Andy Chen. The Spider-Man fan film still has no release date.
