Spider-Man Noir Show Adds First Cast Member After Nicolas Cage As Marvel Character Connected To Spider-Man

Nicolas Cage from Left Behind with beaten up Spider-Man Noir from Marvel Comics

The upcoming Spider-Man Noir live-action drama is adding another Marvel character as Nicolas Cage’s TV show expands the cast. After voicing Spider-Man Noir as part of the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse cast, Cage is getting his chance to play the iconic superhero in the world of live-action. Prime Video and MGM+ are currently working on Noir, a live-action adaptation of Marvel’s Spider-Man Noir, which will take place in an alternative universe, focusing on the web-crawler during the 1930s.

Variety reports that New Girl‘s Lamorne Morris is joining the Spider-Man Noir cast as a familiar face from the Marvel canon. Per the trade, Morris will be playing Robbie Robertson, who is part of Spider-Man’s supporting cast of characters in the comics, for in the TV show that Prime Video is now referring to as Spider-Noir. Morris’s Robbie, who will be a series regular, is described as follows:

Driven, hard-working, and won’t take no for an answer. A dedicated journalist trying to make it with the odds stacked against him as a black professional in 1930s New York. He takes on riskier stories that no one else would touch in order to catch attention and a paycheck. He is willing to do whatever is necessary for his career.

Who Is Robbie Robertson In the Comics & How Can He Fit Into Sony’s Spider-Man Noir Show?

In the Spider-Man comics, Robbie is one of the head editors for the Daily Bugle, usually being the one who is in favor of the web-slinger, while J. Jonah Jameson has his issues with the hero. To this point, Robbie has only appeared in live-action in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, played by the late Bill Nunn. Robbie has, however, also had multiple appearances in various Spider-Man animated shows, with Spider-Noir now being the first live-action series in which he’ll appear.

With Spider-Noir not focusing on Peter Parker as the titular hero, there is still the element of Robbie being able to help depict the New York hero in a good light through his status as a journalist. If Jameson ends up being part of Spider-Noir and having a similar vendetta against Cage’s character, Robbie would be the perfect character to be on the opposite side and perhaps be someone who shares a friendly dynamic with Spider-Man. Spider-Noir could also explore Robbie’s early days as a reporter before becoming one of the major editors of the Daily Bugle.

Given that they are using a character from Peter’s life, time will tell what other key Spider-Man characters may make it into Spider-Noir. With Spider-Noir’s episode count set to be eight episodes, there is only a certain amount of time and room for the number of characters that they can feature throughout the season. Hopefully, more news on Spider-Noir will be revealed over the next few months.
