X-Men ’97 has been praised for the overall brilliant execution of its source material, which has been largely credited to series creator and head writer Beau DeMayo. The writer has been collecting his laurels as people took to the internet to personally thank the creator for his contribution, and lamenting how his departure from the series will affect the show.

Conley, according to DeMayo, was on the same page with him when it came to adapting the story, which resulted in a show that was appreciated by everyone.

Taking to X in the wake of the finale, which left the show on a massive cliffhanger with the faith of multiple core members of the X-Men hanging in the balance, Beau DeMayo talked about one scene from the comics between Professor Charles Xavier and Magneto that was ripped from the comics directly. DeMayo mentioned how some directors might consider it beneath themselves to use a comic book panel as a storyboard, but Chase Conley and his team were not among them.

The scene in question takes place inside Magneto’s mind after Charles Xavier has shattered the mutant leader’s psyche as a consequence of what he did to Logan, while also taking control of his body to restore the power of the world.

Season 2 of X-Men ’97 seems to be taking a different route than the comics

In the wake of Bastion’s defeat and stopping Asteroid M from colliding with Earth, the X-Men found themselves scattered through their timeline, with a batch ending up in 3000 BC, coming face to face with En Sabah Nur, and the other meeting with the Aksani can in the future, 2000 years in the future.

However, among the characters that we saw scattered across the timeline, three characters seemed absent, that being Wolverine, Storm, and Morph. We know that the present has Forge and Bishop among the members of the X-Men, but the three aforementioned characters still remain missing. After Magneto removes Wolverine’s adamantium from his body, the character’s healing factor goes into overdrive, which makes him more beastial. If the show decides to go ahead with this in Season 2, it would be with the added fact that someone summoned the characters out of their time.

Wolverine, Storm, and Morph maybe with the exact person who summoned them, while Apocalypse begins putting his plan into motion to take over the world in the name of the Mutant cause. As Magneto has not gone into a coma, as was the result of the Fatal Attractions storyline, it is safe to assume that the X-Men are going to skip Onslaught in favor of Apocalypse.
