The Pepper Potts actress posted her celebrations online, which proceeded to go viral.
Iron Man actor Robert Downey Jr. recently won an Academy Award for his performance as Lewis Strauss in Oppenheimer, and his MCU co-star Gwyneth Paltrow lively celebrated the Oscar in a new video.
Posting on her Instagram account, Paltrow recorded her screen as last year’s Best Supporting Actor winner Ke Huy Quan announced Downey Jr. as the recipient of the award. Paltrow let off a loud, excitable shriek as the announcement was made, captioning the video with “Robert Downey Jr. takes it!” Paltrow won an Oscar herself for the film Shakespeare in Love in 1999, and now both Iron Man stars are the recipients of Academy Awards. Both Paltrow and Downey Jr. exited the MCU after the events of Avengers: Endgame, where Tony Stark sacrificed his life to defeat the villainous Thanos. Check out Paltrow’s video below.
As Paltrow was celebrating, Downey Jr. took the moment to highlight the importance of his wife as well as Oppenheimer director Christopher Nolan. “I’d like to thank my veterinarian — I mean my wife, Susan Downey, over there,” he said, referring to his wife. “She found me a snarling rescue pet and you love me back to life. That’s why I’m here. I needed this job more than it needed me. Chris [Nolan] knew it. Emma [Thomas] made sure she surrounded me with one of the greatest cast and crews of all time: Emily [Blunt], Cillian [Murphy], Matt Damon. It was fantastic and I stand here before you a better man because of it.”
Downey Jr. has reflected on his role in the MCU throughout the awards season. At the BAFTAs last month, the actor said: “When I was 42, I did two films for Guy Ritchie and learned how to make big Hollywood movies with a civil British flare. I then played a guy named Tony in the MCU for about 12 years.” He continued, “And then recently…Chris Nolan suggested I attempt an understated approach as a last-ditch effort to perhaps resurrect my dwindling credibility. So I share this with my fellow nominees, this has been an exceptional year.”
Oppenheimer Was a Big Winner at the Oscars
Along with Downey Jr., Cillian Murphy won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his titular role in Oppenheimer, and Christopher Nolan was awarded with Best Director. The film also won Best Picture at the end of the Oscars ceremony. In total, Oppenheimer won 7 Academy Awards at the ceremony, making it the most successful film of the year at the show. These are the first Oscar wins for Downey Jr., Cillian Murphy, and Christopher Nolan.
Oppenheimer is streaming now on Peacock.
