Fans were surprised to see a Domino-less Deadpool & Wolverine, given her significant role in the saga!

With the worldwide release of Deadpool & Wolverine, fans are perplexed by the gaping absence of Domino, the luck-based mutant brought to life by Zazie Beetz in Deadpool 2. After joining Ryan Reynolds’ chaotic X-Force, Domino seemed destined to become a staple of the Deadpool franchise. However, the new film has left audiences wondering about her whereabouts and if she’ll ever return to the fold.

Not bringing back Beetz feels like a crime, especially considering her dedicated performance in the last film, including the unfortunate injury that left a scar on her chest and almost fainting while she filming Deadpool 2.

Why Didn’t Deadpool & Wolverine Bring Back Zazie Beetz’s Domino?

While many familiar faces from Deadpool saga made appearances in Deadpool & Wolverine, one notable absence was Zazie Beetz‘s Domino. In Deadpool 2, Beetz’s portrayal of Domino was significant, throughout the film as well as its promotion tour.

Many speculate that the likely reduced scope of her role in Deadpool & Wolverine compared to previous outings, is the reason why she didn’t return for the third installment, assuming she was even offered the opportunity. The actress also  confirmed that she would not be a part of the 2024 movie, in a 2023 chat with Decider,

Well I’m actually not in ‘Deadpool 3,’ so I don’t know what they’re doing [about improvisation]. I’m assuming they’re probably taking a pause. […] I’m excited to watch it

While the reasons for her absence from the cast remain unknown, many speculate about Domino’s potential storyline and how she could re-enter the fray. Given time travel is a piece of cake for Domino coupled with her luck-based powers, some speculate she might be evading the TVA, which only a few have managed to do successfully till now and could resurface in the future for a greater purpose, perhaps in Secret Wars? Only time will reveal if this character will rejoin the Deadpool saga.

Zazie Beetz Almost Fainted While Filming a Scene in Deadpool 2

While the latest Deadpool film introduced unexpected characters, the absence of familiar faces like Domino, Cable, and Russell was a significant disappointment for many fans. Zazie Beetz, who brought Domino to life, underwent rigorous training for the role, including intense physical preparation for Deadpool 2.

Her dedication to the character is evident in her portrayal, making her absence even more hard to swallow. As reported by USA Today, from fainting during a high-octane stunt to sustaining an on-set injury, Beetz’s commitment to the role was truly undeniable. The screenwriter for the movie, Rhett Reese, also agrees, as he stated in a chat with USA Today,

She can really keep up with Ryan, which is not an easy task. She’s with him step by step. She’s so cool and inspirational, in the sense that she (embodies) such a fun and awesome character. Hopefully we’ll be seeing cosplay of Domino at Comic-Con for a long time to come

Her anticipated presence in the upcoming Joker: Folie à Deux has fans buzzing. While Hollywood is treating her well, there’s still a strong demand for more of Domino in future projects.
