The 30-year-old’s performances have proved just how versatile she is. After all, she has played everything from sophisticated villains to innocent and approachable victims.
As Ronan takes on more tough roles and expands her repertoire, it has become evident that the actress is destined for a long and prosperous career. However, unlike most stars like Timothée Chalamet who would jump at the chance to join the MCU, the actress seems to have other plans instead.
Saoirse Ronan’s thoughts on potentially joining the MCU
For years, there have been many rumors that Saoirse Ronan could join the MCU. In 2013, reports from Screen Crush claimed that the studio was looking at the actress to potentially play the Scarlet Witch. However, that failed to become a reality.
Now, in a recent interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the star opened up about the Black Widow role of Yelena Belova that she turned down. She even shed light on the possibility of her joining the superhero world.
How did you hear about that? I don’t know, I can’t see myself doing Marvel. I prefer to do Bond.
Although the mention of the role seemed to have startled Ronan, she wound up brushing it off. The actress also explained, “There is nothing wrong with it, and I think they are brilliant films. I wanna do more big movies, like im at the point where I love making independent films.”
The 30-year-old went on to praise Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and even said that she would love to be a part of a musical. However, it might be some time before fans get to see that.
Ronan plans on staying clear of a Marvel film. However, her Little Women co-star, Timothée Chalamet seems ready to throw his advice from Leonardo DiCaprio aside for the right project.
Timothée Chalamet’s checklist for a Marvel role
Timothée Chalamet, one of the most sought-after young actors in Hollywood, taking up a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe would mark a significant career shift. With the star being known for his performances in films like Call Me by Your Name and the Dune franchise, the 28-year-old has built a reputation as a talented actor who thrives in emotionally complex, character-driven roles.
However, in an interview with the New York Times, the actor opened up about the best advice he’d received from Leonardo DiCaprio on making it in the film industry.
Well, Leonardo DiCaprio said to me, ‘No superhero movies, no hard drugs.’ Which I thought was very good. I follow them both! But the movie that made me want to act is a superhero movie, ‘The Dark Knight.’ If the script was great, if the director was great, I’d have to consider it.
Chalamet continued, “Heath Ledger‘s performance in that film was visceral and viral to me, and I now had the acting bug.” The 28-year-old may be inclined to listen to the advice he was given by DiCaprio. However, the door to him starring in a Marvel film has not been completely shut.
It might be a while before fans get to see Chalamet take on the superhero empire. But there is no doubt that when it happens the world will definitely be sent into a frenzy.
