Sam Wilson’s New MCU Costume Hints At Marvel Repeating Its Best Captain America Story

Sam Wilson as the Falcon and Steve Rogers as Captain America in their superhero suits in the MCU

Sam Wilson’s new MCU suit has been revealed, and it seems to suggest that Captain America: Brave New World will be repeating Marvel Studios’ best Captain America story. Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson finally embraced his new role as Captain America in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, continuing the legacy of Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers, who retired at the end of Avengers: Endgame. Instead of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier season 2, Sam Wilson is set to return to the MCU in 2025’s upcoming Captain America: Brave New World, marking his theatrical debut as the MCU’s new star-spangled man-with-a-plan.

Captain America: Brave New World will see Sam Wilson’s Captain America team up with Danny Ramirez’s Joaquín Torres, the new Falcon, and Harrison Ford’s President Ross to take on the threat of Tim Blake Nelson’s Samuel Sterns, a.k.a. Leader. Marvel Studios’ CinemaCon presentation in April 2024 revealed new story details for Captain America: Brave New World, and a first look at Sam Wilson and President Ross. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier saw Sam Wilson get a vibranium suit, but Captain America: Brave New World has already upgraded this costume, hinting at the potential themes of the Phase 5 project.

Sam Wilson’s New Captain America Is Similar To Steve Rogers’ Stealth Suit

On May 3, 2024, Empire revealed a new image of Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson in his brand-new Captain America costume. This provided the best look at the new costume yet, which will strip Sam Wilson of the white armor of his The Falcon and the Winter Soldier suit, instead bearing resemblance to Steve Rogers’ stealth suit from 2014’s Captain America: The Winter SoldierDark tones of red and blue highlight the trademark star on Sam Wilson’s chest, proving the world has accepted this new Captain America, but the updated suit could also hint at Captain America: Brave New World’s storyline.

Captain America: Brave New World Will Benefit From Copying The Winter Soldier

Captain America: The Winter Soldier was Chris Evans’ second solo movie as Steve Rogers’ Captain America, and third overall after Captain America: The First Avenger and The Avengers. The Phase 2 project also marked the Russo brothers’ MCU directorial debut, and their commitment to the movie certainly contributed to the project being widely regarded as one of the MCU’s strongest installments. While The First Avenger took the form of a war epic to detail Steve Rogers’ origin story as Captain America, The Winter Soldier’s espionage themes and grounded nature saw the sequel receive a more positive response than its predecessor.

Details about Captain America: Brave New World’s storyline, and the similarities between Steve Rogers’ The Winter Soldier suit and Sam Wilson’s new costume, hint at Brave New World copying aspects of The Winter Soldier. There’s a lot of pressure on Captain America: Brave New World to continue the Captain America legacy properly, so repeating what worked so well in The Winter Soldier is definitely the best choice for the project. A reliance on espionage, political and down-to-Earth plotlines will make Sam Wilson’s theatrical debut as the new Captain America more believable, while retaining the textures of Steve Rogers’ previous adventures.
