Ryan Reynolds reveals and praises his Deadpool & Wolverine ‘Bye Bye Bye’ dance double
“If it looks like the person who’s dancing doesn’t have arthritis, that’s him,” the actor said of choreographer Nick Pauley.

Ryan Reynolds is man of many talents. But fans have been shocked to learn that dancing, sadly, is not one.
A viral clip from Deadpool & Wolverine opening scene shows Reynolds’ merc with the mouth dancing to NSYNC’s “Bye Bye Bye” choreography while slaying a throng of Time Variance Authority officers. But Reynolds’ wasn’t the one behind those funky moves. The star and co-writer recently praised choreographer Nick Pauley for the flashy opening scene.
“There’s the moments where there’s a bit of a pop and lock,” Reynolds noted as a recent press conference per With Ashley and Company. “Except the pop really pops, like it cracks, and the lock will not unlock — so yeah, I would do anything I could to free myself up. I will hang [my hat] on Nick Pauley’s talent and thank him for his contribution and services.”

Pauley took to Instagram, posting a video where he is once again delivering that iconic millennial choreography. Thanking Reynolds for “believing in me to play Dancepool,” Pauley called the experience “the greatest honor of my life.”
Deadpool & Wolverine clawed its way to the top of the box office this past Friday with a staggering $205 million opening. That makes it the year’s biggest opening weekend to date, the sixth highest-grossing film of the year with only a few days under its belt, and the eight biggest opening in box office history.
Say “Bye Bye Bye” to the superhero downtrend of 2023.
The superstar mash-up of Reynolds and Hugh Jackman is no doubt a major factor in the film’s runaway success. So is the fact that this is Marvel Studios’ first release of the year thus far, and the company’s only film on the 2024 calendar (excluding Sony’s three releases featuring Marvel characters).
It’s an unusually sparse year for Marvel, making Deadpool & Wolverine a much-needed positive bellwether for Kevin Feige and co. With the news unleashed over the weekend at Comic Con that Robert Downey Jr. will be returning to the MCU as Dr. Doom in Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel’s finally shaking off that superhero fatigue.
