Channing Tatum as Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine

Deadpool & Wolverine star Ryan Reynolds reveals he’s ready to return as Wade Wilson in an MCUGambit movie starring Channing Tatum. Besides Deadpool & Wolverine‘s hundreds of easter eggs and in-jokes, the surprising appearance of supporting characters like Chris Evans’ Human Torch, Dafne Keen’s X-23, and Channing Tatum’s Gambit were a highlight in the titular heroes’ first MCU adventure. Tatum’s Gambit, in particular, stood out above the rest of Deadpool & Wolverine‘s multiversal cameos, stealing the spotlight with his comic-accurate costume and his hilarious accent.

In an Instagram story shared on his profile, Ryan Reynolds praises Deadpool & Wolverine actor Channing Tatum and shares his enthusiasm for the prospect of a Gambit movie. Reynolds says he’s willing to collaborate with Tatum on Gambit in any capacity, regardless if it involves playing Deadpool or not. Read Ryan Reynolds’ full IG story below:

“It’s impossible not to love and root for @channingtatum When he makes a Gambit movie, I’ll return the favour. If he needs someone to carry sandbags, I’m in. If he needs a Deadpool, I can do that. Someone to provide fresh orange slices to the crew, no problem. Name it.”

Channing Tatum’s Gambit movie seemed all but lost after Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox and the end of the Fox’s X-Men movie franchise. However, Deadpool & Wolverine‘s critical and commercial success, plus fans’ overwhelmingly positive reception of Channing Tatum’s Remy LeBeau, may have breathed new life into Tatum’s passion projectDeadpool & Wolverine proves that the legacy of Fox’s X-Men franchise still holds potential for new stories within the MCU.

Speaking to Screen Rant just a couple of days before Ryan Reynolds’ Gambit comments, Channing Tatum said that he’s discussing a Gambit movie with Marvel Studios CEO Kevin Feige. Given Tatum’s obvious love for the character and his previous attempts to get a Gambit movie made, the likelihood of Tatum’s Gambit getting his own film might be even higher now than it was back when Fox held the mutant hero’s movie rights. The question now would be how and when to incorporate Tatum’s Gambit into the MCU’s overarching narrative.

Channing Tatum’s Gambit movie began to take shape in 2014, went through development hell for around five years, and then was canceled in 2019.

Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, and Dafne Keen have expressed their interest in reprising their Marvel roles in a future MCU movie. Reynolds also proposed an MCU Blade sendoff movie starring Wesley Snipes, and now Channing Tatum has teased a Gambit movie. It’s clear that Deadpool & Wolverine‘s main cast still have a lot to offer after Cassandra Nova’s death, not only in future crossover movies like Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars, but perhaps also in their own MCU sequels or spinoffs — especially Channing Tatum’s Gambit, who has been gearing up to star in his own live-action movie for over a decade.
