Ryan Reynolds Just Showed Marvel A Perfect MCU Casting Completely By Accident

Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson and Deadpool in the MCU's Deadpool & Wolverine

Ahead of the release of Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds has been teasing the possible MCU debuts of several international musical superstars. Since the movie is scheduled for release on July 26, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman have recently set out across the globe to promote the MCU’s upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine. This started with a fan event in Shanghai, before Reynolds and Jackman made an appearance at the Waterbomb Festival in Seoul, and have since made the move to Berlin, building up to Deadpool & Wolverine’s world premiere in New York.

In Seoul, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman had the opportunity to catch up with the former’s K-pop friends, Stray Kids. The friendship between Reynolds and Stray Kids, particularly lead singer Bang Chan, began in 2021 after Stray Kids performed with a Deadpool concept on the Korean reality show Kingdom: Legendary WarReynolds and Stray Kids have had a back and forth since then, but the Deadpool & Wolverine promotional tour marked the first time they’d met in person, and may have teased their greater inclusion in Reynolds’ upcoming MCU projects as Wade Wilson’s Deadpool.

Ryan Reynolds’ Stray Kids Deadpool & Wolverine Posts Show They’d Be Great For The MCU

Following their meeting with Reynolds and Hugh Jackman on July 5, Stray Kids members Bang Chan and Felix posted an image with a caption hinting at “awesome things [they] have in store.” This was followed by Ryan Reynolds himself sharing a video claiming Bang Chan and Felix were his “favorite Australians,” and also joked that he had traded Jackman for the band, allowing Stray Kids to join the MCU (via X)Each of these posts have received more attention and more likes than Reynolds’ post of the most recent Deadpool & Wolverine trailer.

The massive popularity of these posts, and the huge outpouring of love regarding Ryan Reynolds and Stray Kids’ friendship, means that the K-pop band would make great additions to the MCU. Stray Kids would bring their massive fan-base to the MCU, and would mark a huge step forward for representation in the franchise, perhaps even by bringing a South Korean superhero team such as the Tiger Division into live-action for the first time. Reynolds clearly endorses Stray Kids involvement in the MCU, so it seems this could be a smart move by Marvel Studios.

The MCU Already Proved It Could Totally Bring The Stray Kids Band Into The Franchise

Although Marvel Studios may be more accustomed to bringing more seasoned actors into the MCU, there have been several exceptions, and one of these proves that Marvel isn’t afraid to cast high-profile musicians in the franchiseEternals’ post-credits scene debuted Harry Styles as Eros, a.k.a. Starfox, the brother of Thanos. Styles had previously been a member of British band One Direction, though has been slowly making his way into acting. Styles’ debut in the MCU, and recent rumors casting Taylor Swift in Deadpool & Wolverine, prove that Stray Kids could easily be cast.
