Ryan Reynolds Addresses Working With Lady Deadpool Actress: “She’s One Of The Funniest People I Know”

Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool next to Lady Deadpool

Warning: This article includes major spoilers for Deadpool & Wolverine.

Deadpool & Wolverine star Ryan Reynolds shares what it was like to work with the actress who portrayed Lady Deadpool in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film. Now that Wade Wilson has finally joined the MCU timeline, Deadpool & Wolverine also came with several Deadpool variants, as the movie tapped into the multiverse concept. One of the most famous Deadpool variants who got to make their live-action debut was Lady Deadpool, as she was seen alongside the Deadpool Corps.

Leading up to Deadpool & Wolverine’s release, it was heavily speculated that Blake Lively was in the Lady Deadpool suit. Following the reveal that it was indeed Reynolds’ real-life wife who played Lady Deadpool as one of the many fun Marvel cameos in Deadpool & Wolverine, the actor spoke about working with her while appearing on the Not Skinny But Not Fat Podcast, where he shared the following:

I’ve been sleeping with her. Not saying that she’s enjoying the sleeping together part, but I’m just saying I have. It’s so weird. I feel nauseous even saying something like that out loud. All I do is keep secrets. I mean it was sort of, yeah, it was kind of one of those things where you’re like, ‘Well, why not?’ I mean, go for it, of course. I mean, we’re all there together anyway. Let’s go nuts. Yeah, it was a lot of fun. Yeah, she did love it. And she’s one of the funniest people I know.

Why Blake Lively Was The Perfect Choice For Lady Deadpool

Blake Lively as a villain in A Simple Favor

While it was initially speculated that Taylor Swift would be playing Lady Deadpool in Deadpool & Wolverine, Lively was always the perfect candidate, especially after it was debunked that the pop star would be in the film. Reynolds and Lively’s story began with a comic book franchise, since they met while they were co-leads in 2011’s Green Lantern. Although the DC film wasn’t a success, Deadpool & Wolverine finally allowed the couple to work together in a well-received superhero film. Plus, it let Lively use her comedic chops.

Anyone who also follows Lively and Reynolds’ public marriage knows how quippy and comedic they have gotten with each other, which has been one of the loveliest things about their dynamic. That is why it was a full-circle moment in Deadpool & Wolverine to finally have Lively join the Deadpool franchise, even if it was just for a few minutes. It’s also fitting that the A Simple Favor actress was the one to play Lady Deadpool because the character was visually inspired by her Gossip Girl character, Serena van der Woodsen, when Rob Liefeld created her, according to Lively.

Following the ending to Deadpool & Wolverine, it begs the question of whether or not fans will ever get to see Lively again in the MCU as Lady Deadpool. Given how successful Deadpool & Wolverine is already proving to be, Lively could always come back in Deadpool 4, or elsewhere in the MCU. Hopefully, Lively’s Lady Deadpool will get another opportunity to shine after the events of Deadpool & Wolverine.
