The upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine is burdened with the mammoth task of reviving the MCU and Ryan Reynolds is trying his best to do that. It is rumored that the film will feature many prominent characters from the earlier Marvel movies as cameos which will induce cheers in the theatres. However, one of the major characters was out of the equation- Cable.

Josh Brolin gave an interview a few days ago where he stated that he was not asked to reprise his role in the upcoming film. Brolin looked frustrated for not being called to join the MCU. Surprisingly, in the latest interview, the Avengers: Endgame star raised a buzz on the internet when he revealed that Reynolds has recently reached out to him.

Besides Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and all the confirmed X-Men cameos, Deadpool & Wolverine also marks the return of fan-favorite characters from previous Deadpool films like Dopinder, Blind Al, Colossus, and Peter. However, the MCU did not report anything on Zazie Beetz’s Domino and Josh Brolin‘s Cable’s return.

Speaking with The Playlist’s Bingeworthy podcast, when Josh Brolin was asked if he was in the upcoming film, he admitted that he wanted to be in Deadpool 3. He stated that he had fun playing Cable. Despite working in the MCU, the Thanos actor shared that Marvel Studios’ working process is complex and beyond his understanding.

“Am I? Yes! I so wanted to be in that movie. [Marvel] is a more complex labyrinth than Outer Range will ever be, my friend. And I will never know where that went or what that is or what I’m involved with or what I’m not involved with – the MCU being so involved now. Cable was a lot of fun. I really liked doing that role. That was a lot of fun.”

According to the latest reports, Ryan Reynolds may have reached out to the star following the podcast. The Dune actor stated in an interview with Etalk that the Canadian actor hit him up and congratulated him for Dune 2’s success.

Soon after the news was revealed, several fans suggested that it may be a hint to the comeback of Cable in the Shawn Levy directorial. Trusted scooper Daniel RPK also stated on Patreon (via Dexerto) that Deadpool & Wolverine is going through reshoots to add more cameos to the story. It may be a scenario that Cable’s inclusion is also a part of these reshoots.

Kevin Feige rejected Ryan Reynolds’ first pitch for Deadpool 3

Kevin Feige initially rejected Ryan Reynolds' first pitch for Deadpool 3

It was a dream come true for Marvel enthusiasts when we got to know that Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman would join hands to enter the MCU in an R-rated fashion. Nobody envisioned that Kevin Feige would ever allow that to happen that in this superhero universe. In a conversation with Empire Magazine, Feige did admit that he rejected Reynolds’ first pitch which was very different.

Ryan Reynolds admitted that he initially planned a Rashomon-style Deadpool 3 “story about Wolverine and Deadpool and something that they got into together but told from three completely different perspectives”.

It is a popular style in cinema that came from Akira Kurosawa’s 1950 Japanese film. When two or more individuals share their different perspectives of the same story, it is called the Rashomon effect. According to Reynolds, “It was a way to make a large-scale movie in a very small way”. However, Feige was not sure of it and rejected the pitch.

It was not long before Ryan Reynolds thought of another way to bring the Merc-With-A-Mouth to the MCU. Kevin Feige praised that Reynolds was “an idea machine” and pitched as many as 25 “thoughts and ideas for the film. It can’t be denied that hype for Deadpool 3 is very much real and it will be exciting to see if all the cameos and surprises can make up for a memorable experience.
