Following his MCU debut in Eternals, Game of Thrones star Kit Harington has responded to the questions about his return as Black Knight.
Kit Harington has addressed questions about his return as the Black Knight in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Harington made his debut in one of the most controversial movies in the MCU — Eternals. The actor played Dane Whitman in the film, seemingly just a normal human, though one of Eternals‘ post-credits scenes teased the character would become a hero — Black Knight — like he does in the comics, only for him to never show up again.
Speaking to Screen Rant in an interview for his upcoming movie Blood for Dust, Harington revealed that nothing is in the works at the moment for Dane Whitman’s MCU return. According to the star, he hopes Marvel will bring him back, with Harington revealing that he loves Dane Whitman’s journey in the comics. Despite the actor’s excitement about potentially playing a different kind of superhero protagonist, Harington’s update on Black Knight’s status is troubling, as there are still no plans to include the character in future MCU movies or series three years after his debut. Check out the full quote below:
Kit Harington: I hope that they do something with that character. I think that character is fascinating and brilliant. And I love his trajectory in the comics. I love the idea of a good guy being turned bad by his superpower. I think that’s brilliant. I’m not sure whether we’ve had a protagonist that’s like that, so I think it’s a really strong idea. I’d love them to [revisit him].
I don’t know, though. The honest answer is nothing’s in the works at the moment. If they decide to use the character in something, or as a solo thing, I’d be very excited by it. But I don’t think it’s planned at the moment.
Kit Harington’s MCU Future Rumors & Possibilities Explained
Eternals Teased A Possible Movie Return
With Sersi getting taken by the Celestial Arishem right in front of him, one of Eternals‘ post-credits scenes showed how Dane Whitman planned to make his next move. The character went back to pick up a family heirloom, the Ebony Blade from Marvel Comics, and just as he was about to touch the weapon, another MCU character made his debut. Mahershala Ali had a voice cameo as Blade, saying, “Sure you’re ready for that, Mr. Whitman?”
Eternals 2 is looking unlikely at the moment, but a possible sequel would surely see Harington return and meet Gemma Chan’s Sersi again. Given Harington’s popularity as Jon Snow from Game of Thrones, the actor could also anchor a Black Knight series on Disney+. The Blade tease could also mean that the two characters will team up in the future in a Midnight Suns project, which has been rumored for some time. As Whitman has been part of the Avengers in the comics, Kit Harington‘s Black Knight could return in time to be part of the team’s next two movies.
Kit Harington’s Blood for Dust will be released in select theaters and available digitally on April 19.
