Prince Harry has revealed that some members of the Royal Family had doubts over his relationship with Meghan Markle.
Prince Harry revealed some members of the Royal Family thought Meghan Markle was a “big problem” and that his relationship with her wouldn’t last.
Harry and Meghan released their own docu-series as part of their lucrative multi-million-pound deal with Netflix in late 2022.
Although claiming that his family were surprised that he “could land such a beautiful woman”, he claims their judgement was clouded by the fact Meghan was an actress in Hollywood.
In their six-episode series, the Duke of Sussex said: “I remember my family first meeting her being incredibly impressed. Some of them didn’t quite know what to do with themselves (laughs).
“So I think they were. They were surprised. They were surprised that such a ginger could land such a beautiful woman. And such an intelligent woman.
“But the fact that I was dating an American actress, was probably what clouded their judgement more than anything else. Oh, she’s an American actress, this won’t last long.”
Alongside her husband, Meghan added: “The actress thing was the biggest problem, funnily enough. There is a big idea of what that looks like from the UK standpoint – Hollywood – and it’s just very easy for them to typecast that.”
Meghan and Harry began dating in mid-2016, with their engagement announced in November 2017. The couple then tied the knot in Windsor in May 2018 – an event that officially welcomed Meghan into the Firm.
The pair, who then began their lives as senior working royals, made the decision to announce their plans to step down from royal duties in early 2020.
The couple now live in California with their two children – five-year-old son Prince Archie and three-year-old daughter Princess Lilibet. Although Archie was born in the UK, Lilibet was born to the couple in the US.
