Speculation is swirling around what would be an unprecedented decision for the couple, who have firmly planted themselves in their Montecito, California, home since stepping down as senior royals.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex could head back to Europe to be close to one of their friends.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could return to the United Kingdom to be close to Ellen DeGeneres after the American television personality quit the United States following the election victory by Donald Trump.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been estranged from the 40-year-old’s birth home ever since they stood down as senior members of the British Royal Family in 2020, but reports have claimed they are trying to mend burned bridges.
Particularly buoyed by the diagnoses of cancer to King Charles III and Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, Harry wants to get close to his blood relatives and Ellen could serve as an avenue to do so.
“Ellen and Portia have been absolute rocks for Meghan and Harry from the moment they moved to California,” an insider told In Touch. “They helped them get settled in Montecito and introduced them to so many great people, they’re such a huge part of Meghan and Harry’s circle.
“[Harry and Meghan] totally understand why they’re leaving; they’ve toyed with the idea themselves since the election. The silver lining, at least as far as Harry’s concerned, is that Meghan might actually agree to go over the U.K. to visit them.
“Knowing that she’d have Ellen and Portia’s support over there would be a real help and might be enough to get her to change her mind about never setting foot there again.”
Markle had previously vowed that she would never return to the UK after the torment she endured at the hands of members of the media, and even the Royal Family herself if you believe what the Sussexes say.
And she seems committed to that policy. When the Duke returned for a funeral in 2024, his wife elected to skip London entirely by heading to the African nation of Nigeria as part of a tour. Harry later joined her there.
Prince Harry tells Ellen where to live
The second son of the King has given her tips on the Cotswolds, located in the South-West of England. The location is known for its beautiful scenery, cosy cottages and silence from the busting urban life of London.
“Harry has already been giving them all sorts of advice on the Cotswolds,” the insider continued. “The vibe there is very similar to Montecito.
“Just with a whole lot more rain, and Harry knows it quite well.”
