Prepare for “Super Storm” Deadpool & Wolverine: Discover Release Date, Plot, Trailer & All Hot Information

Marvel Studios is making Deadpool 3 as part of the MCU. Here’s everything we know about the R-rated sequel starring Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson.

The Deadpool franchise is expanding with Deadpool & Wolverine, which will continue Ryan Reynolds’ journey as Wade Wilson in the MCU. Ryan Reynolds’ poor experience in X-Men Origins: Wolverine only fueled his desire to do Deadpool justice on the big screen. 2016’s Deadpool proved the character’s popularity, and Deadpool 2 turned him into a hot commodity. Now, Deadpool will join the MCU in his third movie, which will finally see a proper Deadpool and Wolverine team-up as Hugh Jackman joins Deadpool & Wolverine‘s packed cast. That news alone makes Deadpool & Wolverine the most anticipated of the MCU’s upcoming movies.

Disney and Marvel first confirmed that the Merc with a Mouth would be joining the MCU at SDCC 2022, with Deadpool & Wolverine‘s first release date confirmed by Reynolds later the same year. Deadpool & Wolverine is now positioned to be a key part of the MCU’s Multiverse Saga due to his trip between universes, from Fox’s X-Men franchise timeline to multiple places already visited by previous MCU movies and shows. As Deadpool & Wolverine‘s 2024 release approaches, more and more information about the MCU movie unravels.

Deadpool 3’s Official Title Is Deadpool & Wolverine

Deadpool and Wolverine MCU Official Title Logo

Deadpool’s MCU debut was officially confirmed to be titled Deadpool & Wolverine by the movie’s first trailer. Following Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s multiple updates and announcements, as well as set footage depicting the Marvel anti-heroes fighting, the possibility of Wolverine’s addition to the title became likely. Hence, after the reveal of the movie’s official logo, the confirmation of Deadpool & Wolverine‘s official title was imminent with the release of the first trailer.

Deadpool 3 Release Date

Deadpool 2 Wade Wilson Poster

Deadpool & Wolverine‘s current release date is July 26, 2024, being pushed forward substantially from its previously announced release date of 8 November 2024. Ryan Reynolds initially announced the release date would be September 2024. However, this was then moved alongside other Phase 5 and 6 MCU projects (possibly due to production delays on Blade). Following the addition of Shawn Levy as Deadpool & Wolverine‘s director, he revealed that production wouldn’t begin until 2023 at the earliest due to his other commitments, with the project being further delayed by the SAG-AFTRA strikes.

Early plans for a Deadpool 2 follow-up included an X-Force movie, planned to be released before a non-MCU Deadpool 3 .

However, Ryan Reynolds was still able to announce in 2022 that Deadpool & Wolverine would be ready in time for inclusion as part of the MCU Phase 5. The Deadpool threequel is scheduled to arrive eight months after The Marvels (November 2023) and seven months before Captain America: Brave New World (July 2024) in the MCU’s current schedule, which means that Deadpool & Wolverine will be 2024’s only MCU movie, placed directly in the middle of Phase 5’s movie releases. This reflects Marvel Studios’ new plans to space out the MCU’s releases and reduce the franchise’s yearly output.

Karan Soni as Dopinder
Rob Delaney as Peter
Emma Corrin as Cassandra Nova
Matthew Macfadyen as Paradox

Ryan Reynolds is, of course, officially on board to return to star in Deadpool & Wolverine, which marks the actor’s fourth appearance as Wade Wilson. When audiences last saw Deadpool, he was time-traveling in Deadpool 2‘s post-credits scene, which could set up his first MCU appearance. The biggest Deadpool & Wolverine cast news has clearly been Hugh Jackman’s return as Wolverine. Logan, released in 2017, was touted as the end of Jackman’s Wolverine storyand despite the calls for his return, it was generally seen as a satisfying conclusion.

However, in September 2022, Ryan Reynolds announced on social media with a comedic video that Hugh Jackman would reprise his role as Wolverine once again. Jackman expressed that his Deadpool & Wolverine appearance in no way undoes what happened in Logan, as it simply takes place at an earlier time. Deadpool & Wolverine set footage not only confirms that Deadpool and Wolverine will both fight each other and eventually join forces, but also that Hugh Jackman will finally wear Wolverine’s comic-accurate yellow-and-blue suit.

Deadpool & Wolverine sees the return of Deadpool characters Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand), Colossus (Stefan Kapicic), Vanessa (Morena Baccarin), Dopinder (Karan Soni), Blind Al (Leslie Uggams), and Peter (Rob Delaney), though Domino actress Zazie Beetz and Cable actor Josh Brolin are seemingly absent. Most interestingly, Jennifer Garner’s Elektra returns from Ben Affleck’s Daredevil movie, opening up more strands of the MCU multiverse, and teasing that other prior Marvel movie figures could also appear. Matthew Macfadyen joins Deadpool & Wolverine as TVA agent Paradox, and Emma Corrin portrays a villain who appears to be Charles Xavier’s twin sister Cassandra Nova.

Deadpool 3 Story Details

Ryan Reynolds As Deadpool Laying Down On Dry Ground Covered By Shadow of Wolverine And His Claws In Deadpool and Wolverine

As confirmed by Deadpool & Wolverine‘s first trailer, Deadpool will be forcibly recruited by the TVA and guided by Paradox, similarly to how Mobius captured Loki and turned him into a TVA agent in Loki season 1. It seems like Deadpool will eventually end up in the Void, where he will likely meet, fight, and then befriend a Wolverine variant. Multiversal mayhem may ensue as Deadpool and Wolverine find themselves in the MCU, and multiple variants of known Marvel characters from previous MCU and non-MCU Marvel movies and shows may make a small appearance.

Deadpool & Wolverine‘s second trailer also fleshes out more about what exactly leads the titular pair to one another, as it suggests Wade is tasked with bringing Wolverine to the TVA, only for either this pair to both be sent to the Void, or for Deadpool to regret his actions and ally himself with another variant of Logan. Interestingly, Deadpool is told that the Wolverine in the TVA scene “let down his entire world“, suggesting he may have been responsible for the destruction of his universe – perhaps explaining why he’d be willing to eventually team up with Deadpool if multiversal stakes were at risk.

The second trailer also notably shows Wolverine facing off against Cassandra Nova – Charles Xavier’s twin sister in the comics, and a notable X-Men villain. This supports the theories that Cassandra would be a Deadpool & Wolverine villain, especially since she’s also seemingly shown having made her base in a giant version of Ant-Man’s skull and helmet. Combined with Logan’s older and yet more jaded depiction, this has in turn led to theories that the plot will provide another, different adaptation of the Old Man Logan Marvel comic storyline, following Logan‘s own looser iteration of it.

On January 29, 2024, Deadpool & Wolverine‘s first official synopsis was released. It simply reads, “The irresponsible hero Deadpool will change the history of the MCU with Wolverine!?” Although this short synopsis doesn’t add much explicit information about the movie, it does suggest that Deadpool & Wolverine will literally modify parts of the MCU’s chronological timeline. The possibility of the X-Gene getting retconned into the MCU’s past is thus made possible, as is the introduction of famous mutant characters thanks to the concept of the multiverse.

Deadpool 3 Trailers

Deadpool & Wolverine‘s first trailer was released during the Super Bowl LVIII, on February 11, 2024. The trailer reveals Deadpool & Wolverine‘s basic multiversal premise, focusing on Deadpool’s recruitment by the TVA and his reaction to joining the MCU. However, this first trailer withholds most of the movie’s multiversal surprises, and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine is only shown once from the back and once in the form of a shadow, right before he enters the frame to attack Deadpool. The trailer also features the first glimpse at Emma Corrin’s Marvel villain, whose silhouette is briefly shown in a single shot.

The second Deadpool & Wolverine trailer released two months after the first, coming to Youtube via Ryan Reynolds’ social media account on April 22, 2024. This trailer reveals more about the specifics of Deadpool & Wolverine’s plot, showcasing further the events that lead Deadpool & Wolverine to eventually work together, and the conflict they initially come into with one another. Emma Corrin’s Marvel role is also shown in more detail, and more clearly reveals that the actor is playing Cassandra Nova, based on the telepathic abilities employed against Wolverine when the two face off against one another.

Deadpool 3 Is Part Of The MCU Canon

Wade Wilson Salutes Captain America Footage at the TVA in Deadpool & Wolverine Trailer

Deadpool & Wolverine officially makes Deadpool’s previous two movies part of MCU canon through the multiverse. Deadpool and Deadpool 2 featured various references to the MCU, such as a helicarrier-like vehicle used as the location for Deadpool‘s final battle. However, the first two Deadpool movies also included several mutants and established X-Men characters, such as the cast of X-Men: Dark Phoenix appearing in Deadpool 2. In the MCU, Deadpool & Wolverine will give Wade Wilson a whole host of MCU events and characters to play with.

On the other hand, the MCU introduced mutants in Ms. Marvel, as well as a Patrick Stewart Charles Xavier variant in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Phases 4 and 5 have laid solid groundwork for the eventual MCU appearance of the X-Men, and it’s a testament to Deadpool’s popularity that he appears to be debuting in the MCU before characters like Cyclops, Jean Grey, Magneto, or other incredibly well-known mutants — but alongside Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. Still, Deadpool & Wolverine could well be the means through which the X-Men officially come to the MCU.

Deadpool 3 Director & Writers

Deadpool & Wolverine going through a portal in Deadpool & Wolverine

Disney and Marvel are keeping with another tradition of the Deadpool franchise by changing directors in Deadpool & Wolverine. Tim Miller helmed the first movie, but David Leitch took over for Deadpool 2. When it comes to the follow-up, Shawn Levy is directing Deadpool & WolverineDeadpool & Wolverine marks the continuation of Ryan Reynolds and Shawn Levy’s collaboration after a series of hits in Free Guy and The Adam Project.

In October 2020, Bob’s Burgers writers Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin reportedly began working on Deadpool & Wolverine‘s script. In early 2022, Deadpool and Deadpool 2 writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese joined to take over writing duties. They have since reassured that Deadpool won’t be “Disney-fied” and will retain the same humor and tone as the previous two movies.

Deadpool 3 Is Still R-Rated (Despite Being At Disney)

Wade Wilson Breaks An Arm in Deadpool & Wolverine Trailer

Like the previous two movies, Deadpool & Wolverine will be R-rated. Disney has made a point of confirming this multiple times, officially making Deadpool & Wolverine the MCU’s first R-rated movie. While a good Deadpool movie could still be made with a PG-13 rating, it isn’t surprising that Marvel Studios is moving ahead with an R-rated MCU Deadpool & Wolverine vision. The franchise is synonymous with its adult content, so watering it down would be a bad look for Disney. It also allows the movie to be a testing ground for Marvel Studios, which could mean more R-rated movies in the future.
